BUTTER ME UP

BUTTER ME UP

I want my MTV lip balm!

First MTV conquered music videos.

Then the channel introduced reality TV.

Next up? Lip balm.

MTV is softening lips and spreading the safe-sex gospel with its “Tantalising Lip Butter”. The balm features preservative-free ingredients, many of which are sourced through community trade programs (like shea, which comes from a women’s co-operative in Ghana).

The channel certainly knows a lot when it comes to lip action, but to get the perfect blend they needed some outside help, courtesy of The Body Shop. The resulting partnership is a white balm that goes on clear—but will stay on all day. As for the sweet scent? Extract of dragon fruit, an exotic Central American plant, is to thank for that.

And while this might be the same channel that broadcasted Real World: Las Vegas, MTV’s lip balm is all about saying “yes” to safe sex. 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to the Staying Alive Foundation, which empowers and protects young people against HIV/AIDS, and the balm’s packaging is covered in ecstatic affirmations.

Just don’t ask us to say "yes" to a House Of Style clothing line…

too bad it's made by mtv, or else i might think about buying it. but i'd rather not give them money honestly. i'll stick to lip balm that isn't made by shitty 'music' channels.

How VERY M-TV to promote safe sex with a product called "yes, Yes, YES". This is lip balm, not a condom. There is zero improvement of "safety" (last I checked) in greasing your lips before doing the dirty. Worse yet is (from a post card from the "coalition" of MTV and Bath & Body Works) the implication that oral sex is the PERFECTLY safe alternative to intercourse.

Um...I don't care for the channel, either, but did you notice that 100% of the proceeds go to the Staying Alive Foundation? Meaning that you wouldn't be giving MTV any of your money. And just because the product is lip balm doesn't mean they are saying that oral sex is safer sex, or that greasing up your lips before sex is safer. Again, the support lies in where the proceeds are going. You guys should read the article a little more closely next time. Seems like you missed the point.

I bought mine from the Body Shop yesterday. I always buy my lip balms from there and it was only £5 so I bought one. It smells nice, it makes your lips nice and smooth and knowing that all of my £5 had gone to a good cause made me feel like a bit of a better person, too. I hate MTV but it seems that, this time, they have helped to produce something nice.
