There was something noticeably absent on the runways during the fall ’09 shows—lips. From Yigal Azrouel to 3.1 Phillip Lim to Balenciaga, eyes might have been lined and cheeks dewy, but mouths were completely bare.
Models got some help from experts like Polly Osmond from MAC and Ayako from NARS, who were busy backstage blotting foundation on lips or lining them with eyebrow pencils, but you can get the look on your own thanks to two new products from Pop Beauty.
The first, Lip Magnet Primer, officially serves as a prep coat for lips that helps color stay on longer. But we realized that it also helps neutralize your natural lip color, just like what we saw on the models at 3.1 Phillip Lim. And while using something like concealer will dry out your lips (also, so not safe to ingest), Pop Beauty’s Lip Magnet Primer is full of Vitamin A and E to stave of chapped lips.
For something a bit less matte, try Pop Beauty’s Lip Cushion. The gloss will give you big, shiny lips without a lot of color, as seen on the Balenciaga runway. The Lip Cushion features pigments to reflect light, so that your lips look fuller without getting flushed, which most lip plumpers do. Aloe vera, one of the main ingredients, has something to do with the fact that it soothes lips, rather than stings them.
If you dare to bare, pair your nude lips with a rosy cheek or super-full lashes. The undead may be hot on runways, in movie videos
, and at movie theaters
, but in real life you don't want to look plain dead.
