Rockville, CA just might be the biggest TV show premiering this spring. Only, you can’t actually watch it on a television set.
Instead, the series, created and produced by Josh Schwartz (the guy who brought you
Gossip Girl and
The O.C.) is airing online only.
Set in a fictional L.A. rock club and based around a group of twentysomethings, the show is as much about its characters as the bands playing in the background. Lykke Li, Passion Pit, The Duke Spirit, The Kooks, and Phantom Planet (pre-breakup), among others, will be rocking out in the four-minute webisodes. While it doesn’t start until March 17, thewb.com, which is airing
Rockville, CA, just launched the show’s
official webpage.
Unlike in Schwartz’s previous forays into TV land, the bands are actually playing live and serve as a plot device for each episode’s drama. The rumor is that Schwartz is looking into releasing the series on DVD, so you can see
Rockville, CA in all of its widescreen TV glory. But there is one major reason to stick to watching it on your computer: instant gratification, since you can download performing bands’ music before the episode is even over. Now that’s some major channel surfing.
