Beauty and pain have become a given as of late. Want fuller lashes? Bring a torture chamber-like device up to your eyes. Want bigger lips? Expect to put up with some uncomfortable stinging while you wait for them to plump up.
It’s a trend that drives Poppy King crazy. As the brain behind Lipstick Queen, King has sought to turn the everyday task of applying lipstick into a momentous occasion. Now that she’s perfected her colors, she’s tackling the myth that no pain means no gain with her Big Bang Theory glosses.
The lacquers use science, rather than stinging chemicals, to make your lips look a bit fuller. Specifically, a combination of shimmer and shine that reflects light in just the right way. Each of the eight shades are held in what looks like a test tube, and the package illustrations are inspired by Copernicus (and, to keep things a bit more modern, Nan Goldin photos from the ‘80s).
You don’t even have to apply the gloss to tell just how big its going to make your lips—they manage to achieve this matte shimmer that, in the tube, makes it look like a swatch of velvet.
In fact, while you’ll definitely get the look of bigger lips, the only thing painful about it is choosing just which color you want.
