with 'unique' celebrities, up and coming etc, there's alwas that chance they won't be famous in, what, 5 years. 'least now when you reach issue number 100 and you print all the covers in one issue the readers will recognise the cover stars.

NYLON is getting bigger and bigger and needs to cater to those kids that have the money to spend- so they put Nicole Richie on the cover. I don't blame them for wanting to make $$ (don't we all??). And-I don't know her (Ms. Richie) personally so I'm not going to bash her too badly. I'll just say she seems a bit blah/boring to me and is definitely not as cool as old Nylon cover stars. I'll just have to find a NYLON replacement. Any suggestions?????

I think that even though NYLON used to have less-talked about celebrities on their covers, they're doing a good job. I agree with Dale ; NYLON is a style magazine, and they look for celebrities who can represent that, or who have something truly interesting to say. The thing that is a tad disappointing that they've now become sort of a guilty-pleasure. I enjoy reading about people like Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie but perhaps I shouldn't be proud of that. The covers that disappointed me were the ones of Christina Aguilara and Avril Lavigne. Yes, NYLON DOES make everyone look great, but to me, these women have no sense of style and are not interesting to read about.Anyways, I think NYLON is doing a great job in all, and I'd love to see someone like, say Mary-Kate Olsen, on the cover.

If this had been the first run of the mill cover girl it might have been interesting. But lately it seems all of your cover ladies have been ripped from the covers of of all the other book on the newstand. NYLON used to be cool, but recently it's just felt shallow and boring.

Since then for the most part the cover stories have been becoming more and more the kinds of people we find in the tabloids everyday. We see enough of them as it is. im kind of in the middle about this, I think nichole is a good fashion icon because she has good taste and her dads money to do it, but as far as being someone to admire, she hasnt done anything with her fame to help other people or make a difference. We as a public do not know Nicole Ritchie, so who are we to judge her? She was adopted, and that is a hard thing to go through. Anorexia is a psychological disease, and she had to suffer through it. I salute her, because that is an obstacle in itself. Pregnant? So what if she's pregnant, that doesn't make her any more or less of a person. Mean? She's not mean, she's honest. I think it took her a lot of guts to accept the cover. When you're a celeb, sure, not everyone's going to like you. But most of the time, the reason they don't like you, is based on the stereotypes, and their own ignorant opinions. YOU GO NICOLE!

Nicole Richie is strange and a little wild, and I personally like her, but if I wanted to read more about her I'd go pick up some common dirty tabloid. People read Nylon to get some people who are outside of the mainstream radar . . . people who have class and lay low to get their work done. I bet all of you posting on this story has AT LEAST one pair of oversized sunglasses....and who made that trent popular? Scarves as well....whether you like it or not Nicole is a style setter and sure you can go round to the newstand and pick up an US weekly or a People and read about her latest drama but real NYLON fans know that NYLON articles show a bit more of its cover stars, uncensored and true. Nicole may be on every other magazine we see while waiting in line pay for groceries, at least nylon can focus on her qualities that we respect her for. Nylon has changed the way I though about Lindsay Lohan (yes, I do despise her), which I though would never be possible.
And you cant forget that Nicole is witty and fucking hilarious. I think it's a good choice of person but I would be nice to see someone who is respectable and who you never see, MATES OF STATE or

i think nichole is a breath of fresh air. she makes the way she feel's out and open, nt caring what or who is thinking or listening. she's crazy, has wonderful style, and is so beautiful. i can't wait to get this issue. reading it front to back.

I definitely think Nicole is 'worthy' of going on the cover, broken down:
1) She's got killer style - Nylon IS a fashion mag after all.
2) She's honest about herself and about her past
3) She's not afraid to miss the truth
4) She's got a fun-loving personality
The only component she doesnt fit is the 'talented' one - hahaha. But I reckon the rest of these make up for that.

Maybe I shouldn't be so interested, but whenever I see Nicole Richie on the cover of a magazine, I'm temmpteeddd. She has fabuulous fashion sense, and even if she does have a stylist she doesn't have to wear everything they choose, she has a brain, she can refuse, though I doubt she has a stylist because she's not famous for anything but her dad and problems lol. And as for her weight, admit it, you've all wanted to look as skinny as her before, well in some pics, most definitely not all, I know I have, I think when she has the potential to be drop-dead stunning, if she gained a few pounds, i don't want to see her ribs, but, I mean before, she was straight out fat.

If she doesn't even know she's famous and isnt contributing anything to the world except tabloid sales why she is on the cover on Nylon? She is only futher glamorizing what she has stood for- partying, anorexia, and getting attention for doing nothing good. If she is turning her life around and taking care of her baby- great. But why do magazines need to cover stories like that? Thousands of people turn their lives around and take care of their children. Blah..I have bought this magazine since its first issue...and it needs to re-edge itself in regards to it's cover choices. Nicole Richie is not a sensible role model for your demographic - even if she's popular - that dosn't deem her worthy of the cover...it seems it's still the classic culture/media slide: defining women in either the whore or the virgin...wild woman or saintly girl - there are more subtle shades of women than that...and I know that you guys are saavy enough to know that. Time to get back into BUCKING THE MAINSTREAM!!!

I cannot wait to purchase this issue. Nicole Richie is definitely one of my favorite celebrities. She's cool, hip and doesn't give a f*ck what people say about her. Girl power, is all I can say! I wish she'd eat some more because her fragile little frame is kind of scary most of the times but her style is so cool I can't help looking at photo after photo of her! Ahh, I want this issue NOW!! Let's face it - Nylon has changed over time, and will continue to change. It's definitely becoming more popular; a significantly higher amount of people are aware of the magazine and read it.
With the added revenue coming in from bigger profits, and the ability to now fund more expensive interviews, it comes as no surprise that in order to keep its growing mainstream pool, it will continue to draw from pop culture celebs and artists to continue making its money. Once it has that larger fan base who mostly like the current Nylon, it's impossible to backtrack and still keep the current subscription level.
I continue to support Nylon because it's still a great magazine (remember, the cover article is only a few pages of the whole mag!), but it's somewhat disappointing because I preferred the esoteric nature of earlier Nylons. But this was bound to happen, and I don't see Nylon going back to its former self.
And for the record, someone mentioned that they want Scarlett Johannsen on the cover...PLEASE NO. Veto. Do.Not.Want. Thankyou.

the cover layout and the photo is amazing, but your choice of a cover girl... forreal??? i'm sure the rest of the magazine is fabulous, but i'm disappointed. nylon is a style mag, true. nicole richie is really well-dressed, true. but there's plenty of stylish celebs out there that also have the intelligence, unique charm, and that EDGE that NYLON is supposed to represent. nylon's still a great magazine, but it's become more typical and that's just really disappointing!! we can read about nicole richie in cosmo. i understand with more popularity comes more money comes more "it girls," but please. don't lose your loyal fans.

no matter who is on the cover, I'll probably always buy Nylon. I do, however, think you are being a bit misleading with the choices of covers this year (Nicole Ritchie, Avril, Ashley Olsen, Christina Aguilera, Lindsey Lohan) They don't really represent what Nylon is about, in my opinion of course. One of the first issues I bought was the denim issue that featured Lizzy Jagger and Theodora Richards, and it was fantastic. Maybe more "mainstream" readers will buy it because of the cover stars, and hopefully, be exposed to something interesting they're not used to by reading the rest of the magazine. I still think these cover stories are extremely misleading though. However, Nylon is the only fashion-type magazine I'll read, and I'll continue to do so unless something else besides the covers go really awry.

I 100% agree that the magazine is not what is was for me when I first started to read it..I was looking for the fresh, new, unusual. It feels like a magazine reaching out for the masses and sales, having said Ritchie seems alright, just won't buy Nylon for her. It's a shame. Thank you for past inspiration anyway.

But girls, because of a magazine cover... you can't just assume the WHOLE ENTIRE magazine is going to be all on her. So if you don't like a person on the cover, don't worry, because that whole cover story/article will probubly be 3 pages long. So there's no need for cancelling subscribtions and throwing a fitsy. Music, films, fashion, literature, art. All still there! (Except for those, ya know, 3 pages!)

If anyone wonders why Nicole Richie is famous, it is simply because there is no real reason...she does not deserve the fame she has.
She is a sheep of Rachel Zoe, who under Zoe's advice did coke/pills/ anything she could to lose a shit load of weight, fake anorexia and become a media whore. Even though Nicole originally became famous via The Simple Life and her association with Paris Hilton, I think these are two very different girls. Nicole comes across as frank, sarcastic, and funny. She DOES have great style (and FYI, Rachel Zoe does NOT style her anymore) and I actually don't hear about her partying as much as many other Hollywood "it" girls. She seems to want to be a good mother and live life on her own terms and I applaud her for that. The interview was good and she looked great. If any of these girls deserve to be on the cover of Nylon, it's Nicole. Although M.I.A. would have been an amazing cover girl as well.

Okay let's get off of Nicole and talk about the shoot. The stylist did a great job at picky outfits that define Nicole. I love the outfit with the rebel tee, skinny jeans and gold pumps. That's hott! Nicole is Nicole and I love that. She is not apologizing for who she is and is not trying to be what she's not. She's a little mixed girl living in white Hollywood doing her. "Hate it or love it" is her attitude and it's fierce! I think Nylon did a great job at picking an outcast and someone who stands out because of who she is. That is what all the people they choose for the cover have in common and I think that was forgotten by most because of the other hype surronding Nicole.
