SOUNDS GOOD

SOUNDS GOOD

Are headphones the new status accessory?

A few days ago, the famous fashion critic Suzy Menkes proclaimed the death of The It Bag.  And it's pretty true - the sea of Gucci logos on the streets outside our office have reached a very low tide.

But that doesn't mean a new accessory isn't rising up, and we think we've found it: the headphone.  It's not just because they've replaced earmuffs and hats as the winter headgear of choice.  It's because this season, for the first time ever, they're being sold in luxury stores.

Yesterday, on a wish-I-could-shop trip to Barneys Co-Op, I spotted Nixon's new Nomad headphones sharing shelf space with Phillip Lim dresses and Rogan Jeans.  Meanwhile, Revolve Clothing sells Erin Fetherston frocks in the same place as WeSC ear buds, and Charlotte Ronson is working some pink headphones into her summer looks - maybe an ode to her sister, the DJ Samantha.

Can headphones carry your wallet, keys, and Sidekick?  No.  But they're way cheaper than an It Bag - and when was the last time your Stam Bag played Rich Girls when you held it up to your ears?

i wear these headphones because they truly isolate me and drown me in the music. its not a look to me. i wore these giant montrosities when it was "cool"

designer headphones = amazing! headphones could never be "burnt". people will always listen to music; might as well incorporate it into fashion <3

NYLON, lately ive been realizing you're noticing things MUCH later then they happen. People have been wearing these as a "fashion statement" if you will since LONG ago. I have 2 pairs sitting in my drawer. Hire some new fashion wise people because whoever is working for you now is sorta outta the loop no offense.

LOVE IT! but, I agree with some of the other people, they have been selling them in a lot of places already. BUT I'm still in love with the idea of designer headphones as an accessory, becauses i'm sick of seeing people with huge oversized bags.

Remember when Jay McCarroll put them on the runway during his Project Runway finale? And that was like the only good collection ever on the show?

I love when Jay had that whole look and the idea about it ! My advice to Nylon , hire new people ; even this Feb issue bored me .

The scene kids are insecure pathetic retards that are influenced only by the media and the mainstream and have NOTHING original about their style at all. Who cares if they already wore them before, they still DIDN'T DO IT RIGHT.

I disagree. Huge headphones have been hanging around for a few years now on the art and goth scenes. Having a small collection, I don't think they're anything new.

I love how when everyone thinks of music being incorporated into fashion, they automatically think of scene kids. Nothing is original about anyone. Everything has been done at one point and current fads are just repeats of old eras. Calling a specific group 'insecure pathetic retards' is highly immature; jealous much? lol

As a side note, yes, I do agree with the above. It seems your squad is pretty unreliable to let the readers see the fashion news while it remains news. The content of the issues have gone downhill since 2006 and those precessing that year. I wouldn't kick up a fuss over a little re-staffing.

Danira von K (so pretentious you had to include more than your first name), fonso (cool nick name) and eli (three letter names are FUN!), do you really think nylon is going to take advice from a fan from middle america? its apparent you guys are cooler than the rest of us, i guess they should hire you? SIKE

This is totally lame. Jay McCarroll combined headphones with high fashion over three years ago.

HEY SHAWNA....how do you relate 'Insecure, pathetic retards' into me being jealous? Why would anyone be jealous of a group of youngsters that need the admiration of each other to feel secure? I'd much rather be an awkward outcast than ever belong to any social clique. Surely, You must be one of them...
