PAINT THE DJ

PAINT THE DJ

DJs go from mixing music to mixing nail polishes.

If Mischa Barton gets to design bags and Jessica Simpson is able to whip up body lotion, then why can’t a handful of word-class DJs make their own nail polish?

That’s what Uslu Airlines wants to know. The cosmetics company is turning four DJs into expert nail technicians later this month when they launch their self-described “club-infused” series of polishes.

First up is glow-in-the-dark “PSG” from Ed Banger, lilac “JMK” from Rollerboys, light blue “ZRH” from Headman, and metallic silver “THF” from Fetisch. Lest you think this is a lopsided collaboration, the DJs also put together a mix inspired by their colors. If you listen closely you’ll hear some Bowie, along with a variety of beats—and if you check out their sets sometime this year, you’ll see each DJ rocking his personalized color. Their mixes have just been released, although the nail polish itself won’t be available on Colette's website until later this month.

Besides opening up the field of just who gets to design nail polish colors, Uslu Airlines is also putting forth the idea that nail polish for guys shouldn’t be limited to clear or black. But will the masses get behind a unisex crowd rocking lilac fingers? Let’s hope they don’t resort to hanging the DJ…
