In the early '90s, LORAC founder Carol Shaw named her lipsticks after Hollywood clients of her makeup salon. There was Claire (as in Danes) and Jennifer (as in Aniston), plus Lisa (Kudrow), Julia (Roberts), and Gwyneth (you get it).
Now rocker-turned-makeup-queen Theo Kogan borrows the idea with Armour Beauty, her new line of eco glosses. "We just named the lip glosses after everyone we tried to dress like in high school," she laughed. "So there's Barracuda for Ann and Nancy Wilson and Nirvana for Courtney Love..."
The glosses were the brainchild of Kogan, a rocker and model, and Allison Burns, a makeup artist whose clients include Cyndi Lauper, Nancy Sinatra, and Kelly Osbourne.
"We knew there was a need for color that could last through anything - a show, an after party, an all-nighter," explains Theo, "But we also didn't want women to put tons of chemicals on their faces." Which explains why Armour is committed to eco-fueled, cruelty free ingredients.
So far, there are fourteen glosses - some demure, some downright neon. But if the Armour team have their way, that's just the beginning.
"You can't do a rock show with just lip gloss," grins Theo. "You need eyeliner, eye shadow, glitter, hair stuff... I mean, I want it
all!"
