GET THE BOOT

GET THE BOOT

Vivienne Westwood takes on Dr. Martens. We rejoice.

For the new year, you can add giving your Docs a makeover to your list of resolutions.

After enduring nearly fifty years of Vespa rides, punk shows, and all-night parties, the iconic boots are getting a very fashionable makeover. Vivienne Westwood, Preen, Rick Owens, and a handful of other big name designer have used the company’s classic 1460 kicks (named after the label’s April 1 launch in 1960) as a blank canvas, deconstructing and redefining the cherry red eight-lace shoe.

While you can’t actually purchase the one-of-a-kind marabou-festooned or porno-covered boots, you can check out all 69 designs on Dr. Martens' special 1460 website and purchase the originals online. Or you could make like Kurt Cobain and Joe Strummer and DIY your own Docs—note that Sharpies and glue gun for personalization not included.

You pathetic trendy hipster fags ruin everything sacred! The point of wearing Docs is to be anti-fashion, not 'in style'. Grow your own fucking spine and stop wearing what fashion magazines tell you to wear.

yeah. and wear what all the anti-fashion kids tell you to wear. like thats any different.

On the website, the Heatherette and Jimmy Choo shoes are fab. Oh, and Brianna - Doc's are for everyone and originality is a bonus as they were meant to be customized. Not anti-fashion, cause as you can tell, they're very fashionable =P

I must agree with Brianna, this is rather ironic. It's weird how gunge has become another trend. Besides, I love the original Docs alone. I don't think they really need to be painted and primped. It makes them look sort of tacky :/

ahhhh!!! I'm so dispappointed. The whole point in these shoes is not to make a fashion statement. Wearing a pair of Docs is like saying, "Hey, I love my boots, and I don't give a damn." why ruin a good thing?

Vivienne Westwood's remind me of Ronald McDonald's shoes. And, to the people who are pissed off...grow up. It's a pair of shoes. I HAVE read books on music and fashion history, and hell, I have my mom for information they don't give me. If a dead cow is really so important to you, then maybe you should all move to India.

Yeah but why not make it better duh lol! Youre right though. It is just a boot......or is it?

HEATHER... i agree that docs are anti-fashion but you may not realise that Westwood is also similar in that her punk designs also told people to fuck the fashions... so the collaboration kind of fits well

these boots are one of a kind and artsy. i love the fish one.

Well, docs were made and sold, case and point. Boots are merchandise. No matter which way you spin it the boots were made to make a profit right. What determines if its trendy or not is the intention behind the reason you bought them. My first docs were bought because i needed some protection when i went into the punk pits. But i must admitt i did love rocking those enduring cherry red stomers. Fashion shouldnt be so serious.

Laughing pretty hard at the girl who asked for advice on how to wear Doc's.... Anyway... There are two types of people who will read this article... The lame-o's who ran to the mall after they read this, and the people who have had a pair since they were old enough to go to a show... we are all a little bit sad because Nylon has christened our boots a 'trend'... But We are equaly as lame for reading this garbage.. Why am I on this website? Facebook is getting boring.

All of these creations are unique and beautiful, especially the ones by Levi. I also think that if someone wants to go out and buy a pair of Doc's bacause of this article, then more power to them. No one should put anyone else down just for wanting to broaden their fashion horizons.

this shoes looks perfectly on jessica szohr on gossip girl first season... i think i like it very much~!!

Dear Haters,

01/30/2009

Please relax. It's an article about boots. If you want to be anti-fashion, why are you even on this site?

BRIANNA: you think that telling people what they should and shouldnt wear is any different then a magazine telling that? you are no different. dr. martens arent called anti-fashion either, it's called making a statement and that doesnt necessarily mean that you are anit-fashion. TO SHAE: you say that you are agreeing with brianna but then you are saying go read a music or fashion history book? you think that reading a history book allows you to wear dr. martens? thats just sad... HELLO PEOPLE, FREEDOM OF SPEECH. and in my book, dr. martens apply with that.

i think the smarter people here already said what i was about to say. honestly? for the people who have decided that docs should be kept to themselves and their category of "true hipsters/grunge/WHATEVER" are the loosers here. A) for trying to seem like their fashion comes naturally, and docs were made for them B) THEYRE ON NYLONMAG.COM LIKE HELLOOOOO. FASHION INSPIRATIONS FOR THE FASHION INSPIRED. so shut the fuck up, PLEASE. i can wear whatever the fuck i want. especially to spice up my trends and fashionability. because thats what im all about.

lajfla

04/15/2009

putting docs in a category and in secret is LAME. leave it the hell alone, no ones gonna buy them unless they like them. and only a few can rock them, so shut the fuck up and let the river flow(LMAO). and i think they're cute. i didn't even know about them probs. because theyre from britain and them fuckers try to tie up doc martens in a treasure chest for no one to ever see/ WELL THESECRET SEEPED OUT, its not a big deal anymore. im from ny, barely no one wears them. i saw one person, MONTHS AGO, wearing them. oh, she couldnt rock them either. oh, and how many fashionably obsessed girls are there here? exactly. everyones not gonna start wearing them, but if ever-hopefully not-that happens, im not gonna wear them ever again until everyone thinks they got old. and i hope no one follows my plan. andy warhol said something like that. to keep your trend, even when it goes out and dies, because if you keep it, it'll eventually come back. and that is NOW, with the docs. but whateverr like, if you bitches stop putting mind into it, people would stop thinking theyre a big fuss because they're too original for the eyes of the human race. SAID.

yeah

04/15/2009

yeah, agreed. you guys (complainers) are making people more curious about them, curiosity did kill the cat. so shut up if thats THAT important to you. PS. its not like you cared about people wearing them and stuff and keeping it to yourselves until the cute fashionable girl walked into the room wearing them. so thenn? shut up. its not made only for you "real hipsters". face it, a stranger wouldnt think you were. even if you are. its not that original, not since the late 1990s.

YEAH

04/15/2009

". so thenn? shut up. its not made only for you "real hipsters". face it, a stranger wouldnt think you were. even if you are. its not that original, not since the late 1990s.", a stranger wouldn;t think you were (a real hipster). even if you are (a real hipster). its not that original (anymore; to be a hipster) not since the late 1990s." but no one cares. its cute fashion. its where it all basically started. but yah know. people in year 2030 should say, "yeah, that style is from 2009!" but no ones gonna say that. so if you complainers keep complaining about this trend that seems to be made for you, why don't you "trend starters or founders" make a new trend-that lasts. <---- i am the "YEAH" thats upthere, BTW.

People, calm down... to some extent, I agree with those who believe that Doc Martens should not be exposed in a way that makes them "fashionable." Actually, to be honest, I think that you can dress however you want and show you like a certain type of music by dressing like that. However- I dislike when people become poseurs and dress different outfits each day (ie. grunge with Doc Martens one day, then preppy with Hollister the next day). I also dislike it when major brands promote a certain product (ie. Doc Martens) and publicize it so that people who do not truly appreciate it end up wearing it, just because. While fashion should be free and a form of expression, it should also show who you are- not what is "popular". Well, at least that is what I think - if that makes any sense. Be true to yourself, ladies. But don't listen to me ... who am I to say anything.
