Vivienne Westwood takes on Dr. Martens. We rejoice.
For the new year, you can add giving your Docs a makeover to your list of resolutions.
After enduring nearly fifty years of Vespa rides, punk shows, and all-night parties, the iconic boots are getting a very fashionable makeover. Vivienne Westwood, Preen, Rick Owens, and a handful of other big name designer have used the company’s classic 1460 kicks (named after the label’s April 1 launch in 1960) as a blank canvas, deconstructing and redefining the cherry red eight-lace shoe.
While you can’t actually purchase the one-of-a-kind marabou-festooned or porno-covered boots, you can check out all 69 designs on Dr. Martens' special 1460 website and purchase the originals online. Or you could make like Kurt Cobain and Joe Strummer and DIY your own Docs—note that Sharpies and glue gun for personalization not included.
