DISCOVE(RED)

DISCOVE(RED)

A cool holiday shop for charity, and beyond.

Last season, Colette invaded Fifth Avenue, opening a tiny store with toys, clothes, music, and the biggest infusion of cool New York has gotten in a long time.

We wish the boutique could have stayed in Manhattan forever, but at least it's been relinquished for a very good cause:  AIDS awareness and recovery.

Starting this Friday, the old Colette pop-up venue turns into (RED), a shop created by Bono and Bobby Shriver to raise money for the Global Fund to end AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in Africa.

The space features products from Apple, Converse, Dell, Gap, Emporio Armani, Hallmark and Starbucks, with a portion of all proceeds going to the charity... and 100% of all sales going towards your stash of good karma.

Besides, who doesn't want a bright red iPhone?

ok, so who else thinks that this is a bit of a oxymoron? ....products made unethically in sweatshops are being sold to raise money for a charity? wouldn't it make more sense if the companies supporting this were of a more conscious nature? look, don't get me wrong, i'm all for aids awareness and recovery (etc), but wouldn't it make more sense to directly send money -all of which would be used- to groups that are making a difference on that front, instead of spending $30 for a "red" t-shirt that only about $5 of which acuattly go to the charity you bought the product to support? i think it's great that companies are starting to produce products like this, all i'm saying is maybe they should practice what they preach more so....no? maybe they'll take a larger step in the right direction soon. (and maybe converse will start making their shoes ethically so i can stop buying the non-sweat versions from other companies.... hint hint)
