The month? November. The weather? Hovering near 40 degrees. The outfit? A neoprene crop top, a pair of neon sunglasses, and a surfboard.
Okay, so we can’t all live in Alexandra Cassaniti’s beach bum world year round. But we can dress like it.
Cassaniti just released her second collection, likely dubbed “Summer Bummer” because, unless you live in LA, you’ll have to get creative with incorporating lightweight tees into your winter wardrobe. But that doesn’t mean you won’t want it all.
This season, her hand silkscreened canvas bags (last spotted on a certain Mary Kate) come in a variety of sizes, from a “bagpack” to a laptop bag to a mountable bicycle bag. Her collection of neoprene separates (bralette or beret, anyone?) has us rethinking our negative stereotype of the surfer fabric, while her Face It sunglasses, with holographic Xs, triangles, and stripes, add a little humor to the typical Wayfarer shape.
And maybe that’s the point—in addition to the new collection, Cassaniti has a few laugh-out-loud-funny
promo videos shot and directed by none other than fellow West Coaster Spike Jonze. Seeing the low-fi shots of a bearded dude dunk underwater serves as a reminder that when it comes to fashion, we shouldn’t always take things so seriously.
