FIRST LOOK: PRADA SPECIAL STONES

FIRST LOOK: PRADA SPECIAL STONES

A new line from the fashion empire that you can actually (gasp) afford.

"I like my Sketchers, but I love my Prada backpack." -- Alex Mack, 10 Things I Hate About You
If you have a similar sentiment about your favorite Italian accessories, here's some good news:  They just launched a new range, called Prada Special Stones, with everything retailing for under $1000.

Sure, that's still expensive, but when you consider the average bag's around $500, and the really costly ones have a detachable jeweled chain you can wear as a necklace... okay, it's still expensive.  But it's not too late to ask Santa for a very special favor...

After all, you've been good - haven't you?!

Enough with the effin sparkles already. I graduated from the sixth grade a long, long time ago. ;)

Jenny

I don't find any of these particularly attractive. They're a little to gaudy for me.

Justyna

11/14/2008

Blackberry Bold or Prada bag? Hmm... tough. Help me decide?

laura

11/14/2008

tacky is tacky, sticking the prada label doesn't change that

alex

11/14/2008

I agree with Jenny, they look like a cheap dress up purse, however, I totally love the gold chain, I would so wear that.... they should make those into head bands (the gold chain, not the bag)

Paige

These are disgusting! & JUST under a thousand dollars? Please, what young person has the money to spare these days?

Amanda

11/14/2008

but i love my skechers..? yeahh that's because you don't have a prada backpack..! ohh they're cutee

emily

11/14/2008

JACQUELINE

11/14/2008

haha alex mack... uhm larisa oleynik? how is she she doing? these bags are nice if i had under $1000 to spend...pfft! :P

Nicolette

11/14/2008

So, that's great and all that Prada is making a less than modest attempt to cater to the poor....ahem...Right. But, honestly, these bags are nothing special. Minus label they look like something that comes with a Bratz doll. It was a good try though, Prada! Get back to your posh lodges in Paris and rethink these! Please!

kate

11/14/2008

they're kind of...gaudy. i would not pay $500 and up, no way, no how.

shade

11/14/2008

yeah they are cool . but they are still expensive I wouldn't invest $500 in a bag specially when I have to buy books for university.

niki

11/14/2008

i like they look like candies....perfect to dress up an all black fit.

Theresa

11/14/2008

They are way ugly....Gawdy!! And Under $1000 is not affordable! Ha!! But I usually like the stuff you have on here...

Amber

11/14/2008

I hate to say it, but these are really ugly. I love Prada, but I've seen similar styles at Dollar Tree.

victoria

11/14/2008

so um, just because something costs a lot and has a well-known name... does NOT make it worth that much money. its not only ridiculous but it's ignorant. are you really so concerned with what people think that you'd spend 1000 dollars on something you could have spent 60 on? jeez. and i agree, overly gaudy.

V

11/14/2008

No please

Alicia Phillips

11/14/2008

they would look better without the stones, too gaudy. i would buy them if it weren't for the stones.

Justyna

11/14/2008

I'm reading all of these comments and I'm left to wonder... if this bag were regular Prada price, would your opinions change? Would it all of a sudden become THE 'it' bag? Or is it the fact that the lower price makes it look 'cheap' to you? Quite frankly, I have seen designer items worth over thousands of dollars that look like they were made for only ten bucks. I rest my case.

Natalie

11/14/2008

Eh... Under a grand? I could make 1,000 bucks go a lot farther than technocolor snakeskin purses with gems all over. Just give me a thrift store clutch, some purple spray paint, a glue gun and some craft store rhinestones. PRESTO! Prada.

Staci

11/14/2008

"Prada lowers their prices with a new line just under a grand while the average American household income for 2007 is a smidge over $50k (American Community Survey Report, 2008) and while one in four people in the developing world live on or less than $1.25 a day ("The Developing World,"Chen, Shaohua ; Ravallion, Martin)." How does Nylon, or any fashion conscious person for that matter, deem that buying a bag is worth a grand, give or take?! Unless a portion of that money is being used to truly make a difference or that fabric is being used from recycled fabrics, then the money here is going to waste "in the name of beauty and fashion." It also doesn't help that these purses, clutches, etc., are hideously ugly... or does it?

KATIE

11/14/2008

NO WONDER THEY ARE AFFORDABLE, THEY ARE SO FOUL! CLAIRE'S ANYONE?

Jen

11/14/2008

Meh. I prefer Chloe, Balenciaga and Marc....Prada is for old ladies and preps!

LISABBBB

11/14/2008

Horrible. Barf. What the hell are they thinking? I'm sure Raven Simon would like them...but who wants to look like "That's So Raven?"

Miss $ticky

11/14/2008

Could be better but love the concept Prada pump up the Style!

Lori

11/14/2008

I've never understood why people spend so much money on a name. People buy these hideous unoriginal peices of junk that took a whole lot less than a grand to make then to top it off, it only stays in style for a few months. Why America why!? The end :)

Renee

11/15/2008

in one of the aforementioned comments even if they were at normal price i would still hate them i could careless what the price tag says theyre ugly bags and i dont like them and thats still expensive for a handbag id love to get a prada bag for a good deal but im not going to pay that for an ugly bag they couldve shelled out something alot better looking than that

steph

11/15/2008

HEY! STOP! 1000$ is a lot of money! who could afford this? okay, rich people. not me. I love Prada, but do you really think it is accesible??? and those bags are not very nice. but I like the shoes,... if they were 80 $...

meghan

11/15/2008

Wow, people really don't like this collection! i LOVE it! not all rhinestiones/jewels are tacky, and people have to get past that. some are AWFUL, but others are beautiful. these bags are supposed to be standout pieces, not piled onto the rest of ur outfit! i especially love the cluthes and the shoes. im never going to be able to afford these (anytime soon (; ), bust still cute!

Larisa

11/15/2008

Faran, My name is not Alex Mack. That isn't even my character's name in 10 Things. Do some research.

Zube

11/15/2008

No, no Prada!

Jerica

11/15/2008

They look cheap, if someone paid 500 dollars for that purse there'd be no way i would be able to tell. I'd probably just think it was a knock off. The big jewels are a good winter look, and were a good look last year, but purses like that will be a dime a dozen this winter. It's just when i spend a lot of money on something, i want it to be something someone can't easily knock off and get the same look or better. And let's be honsety..how much did those jewels cost on that purse? probably not that much, like most things we're probably just paying for the name.

Jess

11/16/2008

Despite the price, I'd sport one if I could. I don't think they're tacky and I don't think there's anything wrong with being a little flashy either.

Jordan

11/17/2008

Wow, did Larisa Oleynik really just correct Faran? Way to go (she's right)! Also, I agree with Staci- if we as consumers are going to spend an arm on a leg on fashion items, it's better if the proceeds go towards improving the environment or the lives of those less fortunate. These Prada accessories do neither, and in this dismal economy, most of us can't afford them anyway. I'm not saying they are cute or ugly (because style is really a matter of opinion), but ethically are they really worth it?

Kathy

11/17/2008

Wow!!!Meow - My Texas big haired self loves them... Santa come down the chimney with a few...
