Costumes, haunted houses, scary movies…who are we kidding? When it comes to Halloween, the most important part is the candy.
When I was younger, I’d count my packets of M&M's, trick my younger sister into trading her full-size Snickers bar for my box of raisins, and hide my stash of candy from my dad.
Now I’ve upgraded from a pumpkin bag to a beauty cabinet full of sweets—Junior Mints perfume, Bubble Yum lip gloss, and red licorice 3-in-1 gel—but have just as much trouble guarding my goods. Only this time it’s my roommate who I suspect is the raider (I can smell the Starburst gloss on her lips from across the apartment).
And since my neighbors generally frown upon giving candy to a twenty-something-year-old, a trip to the drugstore may just be my stand-in this year. If only shouting “trick or treat” got you one of Cargo’s chocolate-scented lip shines at Sephora.
