World-renowned art collector and curator extraordinaire Charles Saatchi is not an easy guy to get in touch with. And until recently, most young artists would probably be shit out of luck trying to get him to sit and see their work. While Saatchi remains as elusive as ever, he’s not in the dark by any means. He recently added an online artist community, aptly entitled Your Gallery, to the Saatchi Gallery website. “Saatchi has provided a platform for artists who don’t necessarily have gallery representation to exhibit their work to other artists, collectors, and dealers,” says Rebecca Wilson, editor of Your Gallery’s online daily magazine. Artists are allotted ‘space’ to exhibit up to eight works (more than 45,000 artists have thus far) and within this sub-site, an additional area, called "Stuart," caters specifically to art students, allowing them to exchange ideas through forum postings and instant messages even. “Artists have had their work bought by collectors and they’ve even been offered exhibitions,” says Wilson enthusiastically. “And we don’t take any commission or charge any fees for using the site, so when the work is sold, the artist benefits 100%.” Times are a-changin’.
