TAKE A BROW

TAKE A BROW

The bigger the better - especially when it comes to your eyebrows this spring.

Her shoulder-baring tops, dark denim jeans, and platform sandals might not be hitting stores until next year, but you can rock the beauty looks from Charlotte Ronson’s spring runway show right now.

Beauty.com's Tina Turnbow, who did the makeup for the show, cited Madonna circa “Lucky Star” as her inspiration. “Charlotte had a picture of Madonna for us to think about. It’s feminine but a bit grungy.”

The key to the show’s makeup, explained Turnbow, are big thick brows framing the face. “People tend to tweeze their eyebrows so that they start at the inside edge of your eye, but I really love brows that go further in.”

To keep the look balanced, Turnbow skipped putting color on the cheek and kept lips light. “Charlotte wanted it to look like you just bit your lips,” she explained. For the eyelids, “they’re grungy, undone, and not so perfect—the olive green color is a nice neutral.”

Just because you don’t have a master makeup artist at your side doesn’t mean you can’t work this look on your own; use powder or a pencil to fill in brows, then groom your eyebrows with a gel or wax. We love Tarte’s eyebrow toolbox, Lorac’s three-part kit, and Urban Decay’s brow pencil—although we’re sure that back in 1984 the material girl’s strong brows were a DIY endeavor.

it is ridiculous to over pluck or let your eyebrows grow wild because some runway show did featured bushman eyebrows for next season. why not have nice, natural eyebrows that frame your face? so you don't look like a lumberjack or a hooker?

I agree, BIG eyebrows are not flattering on some faces neither are overplucked eyebrows. There should not be a trend with eyebrows because many people could not pull off this look without looking hideous.

I love these eyebrows -- they are not lumberjack to me but maybe that's just me having lived through the Brooke Shields/ Mariel Hemingway era. They look more classic movie star to me as shown in the main story image. I think this look could work on anyone with the hair if they define with a slightly lighter product.

personally, i think that fuller brows do look better than overly plucked ones. and i don't think this story was referring to big bushy eyebrows. if you look at the pictures none of them look bushy.

I agree with emily. I mean, you were born with the eyebrows you had, so just letting them grow in a bit should just look natural. I mean, they're your REAL eyebrows. But I also do agree that there shouldn't be trends with eyebrows, do it how you want, and keep it that way.

Is it just me, or are the models' brows in these pics neither big, thick, nor Madonna-inspired? I have a weak spot for strong brows (within reason, of course) but I'm not seeing them here and it makes me saaaddd. :(

i like big eyebrows. the thinner they are, the sluttier the person. you can tell when they aren't natural. everyone has eyebrows, when u make em too thin or straight or "perfect" it just looks gross! so go big eyebrows! but no unibrows please!

The thinner the eyebrows the sluttier the person? LOL What kind of ridiculous, ignorant statement is that? I always thought.. the less CLOTHES the sluttier the person. Some people just look GROSS with thick eyebrows... examples include madonna's own little girl..
