Her shoulder-baring tops, dark denim jeans, and platform sandals might not be hitting stores until next year, but you can rock the beauty looks from Charlotte Ronson’s spring runway show right now.
Beauty.com's Tina Turnbow, who did the makeup for the show, cited Madonna circa “Lucky Star” as her inspiration. “Charlotte had a picture of Madonna for us to think about. It’s feminine but a bit grungy.”
The key to the show’s makeup, explained Turnbow, are big thick brows framing the face. “People tend to tweeze their eyebrows so that they start at the inside edge of your eye, but I really love brows that go further in.”
To keep the look balanced, Turnbow skipped putting color on the cheek and kept lips light. “Charlotte wanted it to look like you just bit your lips,” she explained. For the eyelids, “they’re grungy, undone, and not so perfect—the olive green color is a nice neutral.”
Just because you don’t have a master makeup artist at your side doesn’t mean you can’t work this look on your own; use powder or a pencil to fill in brows, then groom your eyebrows with a gel or wax. We love Tarte’s eyebrow toolbox, Lorac’s three-part kit, and Urban Decay’s brow pencil—although we’re sure that back in 1984 the material girl’s strong brows were a DIY endeavor.
