SPACE INVADER: IN GOD WE TRUST, SOHO

Brooklyn’s beloved boutique now has a sister store in SoHo.

For a borough that was once considered Manhattan’s back up in terms of residence and retail, it seems everyone is moving to Brooklyn these days. Shana Tabor, however, who has lived mere blocks away from her Williamsburg boutique, In God We Trust, for a couple of years now, is going against the grain with the opening of a new store in SoHo. “The new store is like the big sister to the Brooklyn spot,” she says. “We’ve expanded our house line considerably, started men’s, and also picked up this line called Kristen Coates—she's rad and so is her line!” In God We Trust’s namesake collection and jewelry line, comprising everything from whimsical charm pendants of unicorns pressed into pennies to silk wrap dresses to cropped jackets, are joined by vintage home furnishings and discerningly-selected labels, local and from as far away as Australia: Judi Rosen, Mina Stone, Harvey Hats, M. Carter, Beard and Bangs, Ritten House… All that’s missing from this new Lafayette Street location are the lawn chairs that Wythe Avenue flaunts out front—a reminder that we’re not in Brooklyn anymore.
