We almost called this story "break a leg" but that didn't happen.
We love Clueless, you love Clueless, everyone loves Clueless. And aside from the line, "But it's an Alaia!" nothing could possibly be more Cher than her thigh-high socks.
Paired with a mini in the fall or winter, tall socks will keep you warm and alluring, because unlike tights, socks have the added advantage of showing just a teensy bit of skin.
It's a look that turned into a phenomenon in the nineties, but lately the runways and streets are seeing a repeat performance from these glorified socks. We picked a few of our favorites, since it's almost time for Fall...

i absolutley love the knee high socks, they go amazing with all most anything. whether it be a dress, shorts, or a skirt, it looks deck.

Knee/thigh high socks are ADORABLE! I literally have 43 pairs (all in different patterns and colors, hehe.)
especially when you wear a skirt but don't want to go bare underneath (but it's too hot for leggings). you can still show a bit of skin :)

I personally love knee socks but the last time I wore them in public a group of guys started harassing me about them. So I'm not sure how well the trend is gonna take off...

I love the knee highs look but I'm afraid my legs are too short and stumpy looking to wear them. Sometimes I wear my leggings instead of my jeans because I feel like the leggings look better because they're the right length and don't have to be hemmed and just look to be a better fit. I'm 5'2" and not skinny...I think these looks will look better for those who were born with the gift of height and awesome long, gorgeous legs.

They do not actually keep you all that warm especially in the winter and especially here in Seattle. To go out in knee highs and a miniskirt in the winter is like suicide. I prefer black tights, I think it just looks more chic. Maybe it's the Edie Sedgwick in me.

Knee highs have actually always been in fashion korea/japan and I think it looks really good! I bought some while I was in China because the style was already in. They look a lot cuter than tights but tights are more chic.

I wore knee socks with minidresses all the time last winter since Florida really doesnt get like super cold. The colorful ones look totally rad with black high top converse and buckle boots.
I never like got harrased either. :)

I LOVE high socks! I'm not big on tights (they just dont look good on me) but i love the look with a mini plaid skirt and some flats(convers too). If you do the look right, it can also look good with a pair of heeled marry janes. For some reason it can be sexy with out looking slutty or looking like you tried to hard.

I have a great pair of Rainbow Knee High socks I love them. However I just wear them around the house with my short shorts.
I Love it when girls wear there cute knee high sock in public. I just don't have the balls to wear mine out. So keep it up ladies

ohman i live in knee high socks- new favorite though, awkward mid shin high socks, preferably mens and preferably black. also big fan of trouser socks that are like nylon and "off black". sexy and gross at the same time. which is kinda my look....

I love thigh highs almost as much as I love dresses. I own about 20 pairs. 4 argyol, in pink & black, tangerine and light blue, and a few other funky colors 2 pairs in light cream, 2 in navy, 3 fishnet (2 black, 2 red), rainbow stripes, solid black, heather gray with hearts, and a billion other pairs. Wear them with mini-skirts, wear them with dresses, they work with everything if you can find the right color, especially if you're trying to find a comfortable temperature for the day, a light top with thicker socks = perfect temp.

When SATC Movie came out there was a scene where CB wore knee highs and I instantly knew they'd be big this fall/winter. I just bought a few pairs yesterday. I'm so happy to read this!!!

love love love socks!!! Even if you can hardly see them with a long skirt or even jeans.

i ordered a pair of over the knee socks on urban outfitters (the 1st picture, but black)a week ago and i cant wait to get them. i need to wear them soon, because by mid oct its going to be too cold to wear them in canada. i also agree with Taryn, i could picture guys at my school saying stupid things, or even on the street..
