TATTOO TIGHTS

TATTOO TIGHTS

Our favorite new trend is easy to buy, or DIY

Everyone I know has a tattoo fantasy: When they're getting it, what it will say, where it will be.  But only half my friends have actually gone under the needle, leaving the rest of us to draw wistfully on our hands with Sharpies or eyeliner.

But now we can get one step closer:  This season, tattoo tights are all over, making it easy to pretend you've gotten inked without actually committing.  The concept is simple: Take sheer stockings, print them with... well, anything... and voila.  Instant tattoo prints.

Our favorite so far are the Victorian scrawls as seen above, done by Be Baroque, a British line specializing in stockings.  There are also heaps of designs on the indie artist site Etsy.

But if you don't feel like shopping, there's also the DIY route - get a thin-tipped Sharpie, stretch your nylons out on a piece of cardboard (the one they came wrapped around should be just fine) and go crazy - besides being temporary, it's also way less painful than the real deal.

Meghan

wow, lily looks gorgeous in that pic. now i want those tights. but i agree with others that although the ones in the photo are to die for, the concept could go tacky really fast...i'm picturing all-over ed hardy-style roses and skulls...ewww!!! girls, don't make your own unless you REALLY know what you are doing!!

08/14/2008

hell yea, do they come in color?

ugh

08/14/2008

these sound really douchey. like something sailor jerry would print some swallows on or something. i think the ones in the picture are really nice, but they don't look like tattoos, it just looks like printed tights. i think it's just another way to make money off of the same printed tights no one wanted a couple years ago, but whatever. as long as no one makes tribal tights the world will go on turning.

GINAA

i love the idea of these, like the ones in the photo. they are so chic. but i would never, ever, buy ones that actually looked like "tattoos". but these are so great, and chic, i love them!

Hannah

08/21/2008

I love the idea, especially after my tights phase two years ago. I like the ones on bebaroque. I'm afraid if I draw on my tights, won't the ink bleed?

ellen

08/21/2008

I dig it!

pris

08/21/2008

These are just plain ol printed tights! No one would ever get real tattoos like those tights! I hope not at least. tights are cool, faux tats are so g*a*y.

sally

08/22/2008

OMG this is a BRILLIANT! Idea...how can i get a pair...do they come in different colors and shapes, to kind of make them appear as real as possible.

alexander

They looks like printed tights than tattoos. Tattoo is permanent ink left on the skin..that is so called the beauty of tattoo www.tattoobody.org

I've actually discovered an easier way to make DIY tattoo tights. Take the design you want and trace over it onto cling film. Then take the cling film and wrap it around your leg. Pull the tights on over the top, then trace over that with a permanent marker. Voila! I found this a lot easier than using the cardboard because on your leg they're even tighter, so far easier to draw onto. And you get a better idea of how they're going to look on your leg :D
