WOOD YOU BE MINE?

WOOD YOU BE MINE?

A plastic toy gets an eco-makeover, with a little help from Japan.

Here at NYLON we’re kind of obsessed with Bearbrick. You know, the company that makes big bears for grown-ups who like toys…and Chanel.

You’d recognize their Coco bear from the windows of the Chanel store on Spring Street in SoHo, where the lucky playthings got to display the store’s accessories.

Now the Japanese bear-smiths have partnered with a charity called moreTrees to create a Bear made from recycled wood called the Eco Value Wood Bearbrick.

We’re assuming the project is to raise awareness for the environmentally conscious charity, which will receive a portion of the proceeds from sales.

We love the idea of Bearbrick doing a partnership outside the high fashion world…but perhaps using wood to make a bear whose proceeds go towards saving trees is a little funnier than they intended.

I love Bearbricks! They are a clean, inexpensive habit... at first.
