PERMANENT PRESS

PERMANENT PRESS

Is peel-on eyeshadow a good idea or a bad idea?

In the ‘90s, Cher Horowitz from Clueless had the best fashion invention ever.  At the click of a button, she had the most fabulous ensemble in school, thanks to an envy-inducing computer program that instantly grabbed a great outfit.

And while we might not have the cure for fashion closet dilemmas, we do have a new fix for your lack of time and blank eyelids:

Instant, colorful eye shadow that glides on easier than wallpaper.

This on-the-go cure comes in six themes, from neutral eye-enhancing palettes (Flaunt Kit and Tropics Kit) to zebra and camo-crazed prints (Exotic Kit).

Imagined by famed make-up artist Irina Iosilevich, and comes in travel-size kits that include five eye shadow appliqués, available at Sephora.

But is this too weird to be true?

Quite. I think the idea is genius, some of the schemes that are shown though with it being so dark may be a bit much but with some more natural and all out wearable colors and hues i think it could become a permanent way to apply eye makeup. : ) for now though, i do think it would be a fun gift for any aspiring fashionista.

its so weird...but i love it

Bad idea. What I personally love about makeup is that it's an art form. It in a way shows the wearer's character. Certain styles of makeup suit certain people. I would never want my makeup to look exactly like the next person.

BAD IDEA. when i was modeling, the make up artist said "I love your eyes, it's fun to put eyeshadow on you. Putting on make up is like painting a canvas." You don't use a sticker to paint a canvas and you certainly don't use stickers to apply eyeshadow

i agree with riley, that it is a personal style. but this is also just a start. i mean, they could come up with thousands of different eye shadow styles. and dont we all try to make our eyes look like celebrities anyways?

Esther

I think the idea behind it is really neat, but for all the girls that are eye-shadow fanatics should understand how blending is a big part of the eye-shadowed look. Having a printed wall paper like shown seems sorta of barbie doll and unreal. Maybe if they had a color i liked, and i could rub in after applying from the paper, it could work? Otherwise, no thanks!

I don't like the idea of sticking something on - what would happen if you put it on wrong? - but on the other hand, it could save so much time in the mornings!

I THINK ITS BRILLIANT!!! Amazing, Fun, I WANT IT It definitely looks like a ton of fun!!! obviously it wouldnt go over so well at work.. but damn how much fun for a night out... LOVE IT... Going to Sephora NOW

JADE

.... OK.... i checked out sephora... Not too amazed by the regular eye color sets. EH!! BORING! They need to focus on the Exotic Eyes a bit More... More animal prints, graphics, etc...

BAD IDEA. i don't know... it seems to getting some props but i love having to actually use brushes and apply colours. it's like art. this is like... paint by numbers makeup.

what?

07/02/2008

hahaha, C. Not everyone was blessed with canvas eyelids like yours, you know. I think this could be fun in a very not serious way. on the plus side, this is what drag queens have been waiting for!

genius?? uhm, time saver and the zebra print is pretty cool. but i like the app process.

Allie

07/02/2008

I used some of that at the IMATS makeup trade show in Los Angeles, and the zebra/cheetah prints are probably the best. The colors work well too, but they're not as dark as I'd like them to be. They're really fun. I bought 5 packs of them. :)

Allie

07/02/2008

and as for putting it on wrong, as long as you dont rub it while you're applying it, you can't put it on wrong. Lightly tap it and pull the sheet off.

davanie

07/02/2008

I saw it on the tyra banks show! i thought it was so cool ... but only the ones with 2 colors blending and fading if you have ones with precise angles and such it looks too fake.

MAMA WOLF

07/02/2008

I think thaa for people that don't have a lot of time, the neutrals would work well. The exotic ones might be too over the top. But I really like the idea!

paperdoll

07/02/2008

The idea is good, but I think they would look better if they weren't so oval shaped. It makes it obvious that it wasn't done by hand. & the exotic prints would look cooler if they were directly on the eyelid.

KRIS

Being a girl who doesn't wear makeup... I say to each her own. Although I must say, stick on eye shadow would probably be a big hit in this country- were people want everything fast and convenient.

Megan

07/02/2008

bad idea, ... everyone has different eye shapes and how sad would that be if someone finally gets excited because now they can try a cool eye shadow patteren and turns out its ugly cause they have a different shape eye.

i understand the few people who see this as a bad idea but then again, i actually think this is a genius idea. +and just because these 'stickers' come in certain colors and styles doesn't mean you cant add your own flare and style to them. :)

Staci

07/02/2008

I think this idea is just as much as an art form as classical application. Even in fashion, there are generally molds for certain styles which are then made into unique pieces of clothing that are different from all the rest (Urban Outfitters 'Urban Renewal' for example). It's like a stencil that, once used enough in order to obtain skill in application and manipulation of, each eyeshadow "mold" could become it's own unique design. I can't give it five 'hearts', however due to the fact that I haven't used it but I believe that three 'hearts' for the innovator's unique originality.

Katie

07/02/2008

I think it's neat. Applying and, honestly, playing with make-up is a form of expression for me, so these are not something I'd wanna wear everyday; Every once in a while, this could be an easy and fun alternative. I'll try it!

Lindz

07/02/2008

I saw them do this on the tyra show, i thought it was pretty amazing. who would want to take the time to make sure that they are equally added when you can use the stickers and now and be done in like 2.2 seconds :)

stephanie

07/02/2008

this seems pretty cool only i think if done wrong it could come out looking like cheap press on nails. and that just would not be good. I personally would miss the rewarding feeling applying my own eyeshadow has.

Shel

I think that this idea is great. You should definitely put this in your magazine. It would be fun to have easy-eyeshadow to put on.

This idea is definitely time saving if anything. I'm not exactly a fan of the price (yeah, I'm sorta cheap), but if I could afford it I'd probably try it out. I looked at the product and I definitely like the zebra print. I'm not amazing at putting my eye shadow on, and yes, I should learn more on how to do it, but maybe it might seem like a good idea. I guess you'd have to talk to people that have tried the product and see their perspective on trying it.

YES. As others said, I wouldn't wear it every day (obviously); I don't wear eyeshadow every day. But it would fun and quirky for a night when I want to stand out and spend a lot of time on my makeup, accessories, outfit, hair, overall look, etc.

eye makeup is an art. it's all about contour and stickers should be reserved for 5-year-olds in my opinion...

an art form? omg shut the fuck up! These are for the people who have lives and dont have time to spend an hour putting on damn eye shadow. It makes putting on make-up so much more convenient and time saving. I would love to try these out.

Like nail art for the eyes! This is an awesome idea, esp for people who can't do it themselves or don't have the time to. I mean it would take me hours to pull off a zebra print like that (w/eyepencil)!!! And just because u use these doesn't mean it'll replace your very loved eyeshadow tricks. It's just an option not a replacement!!! And about the "eye shape", I'm pretty sure you can use a pair of scissors to cut the applicator and use your own eyeshadow w/it to make it suit you. Think outside the makeup box ladies & gents.

personally, i adore applying my eyeshadow the traditional way. something about creating that moment's "perfect look" has me totally smitten. and, on top of that, im confident in my abilities to create the look i'd like to see on my eyes at the time... but i get comments from girls all the time about how they wish they could do fun things with their eyeshadow but don't think they can. this seems like a great solution for people who want fun effects, but don't think they can achieve them the traditional way.

felifel

i really have to agree with the other girls when i say that eyeshadow application is a form of expression, sticking something on your face just seems so fake!!!

in the picture with the whole zebra print thing it kinda looks like something a stripper or tranny would do with their makeup. aha. i would be too scared that it wouldnt come off? like how would you take it off when your taking off your makeup? is it like a stick-on tattoo? i would never use it but at least people are trying new things with makeup. (:

hey i think its a great idea. great for girls who are short on time. if you think makeup is an art form.... then extend it with this. art is not restricted and it never will be.

hmmm.

07/14/2008

I think we're missing the point here. Being able to just press and go is probably for those who choose to use it. I don't think automatically makeup artists are going to suddenly start using it. I'm pretty sure that'll make them look bad, kind of like taking the easy way out when they're supposed to be skilled at applying makeup on clients. I mean they have press on nail polish already, but you don't see manicurists rushing to use it. I imagine a bunch of tweens using it anyway.

sam

07/15/2008

its a good idea for if you need to do your eyes FAST, but i personally like to do my own makeup. my makeup is personalized for me, and the eyeshadow stickers arent really original colors, if that makes sense. the animal ones are cool, but only for like a wacky event, not for going to the mall or anything.

Joelle

Yuck. The "natural" colors go all the way to the brow and look so... over done. Personally I'd like to stick with my own smudging and dusting, thanks.

This is so cool! Probably too expensive! It's weird that so many people think this prohibits self-expression or won't look good on everyone. True, perhaps, but we buy our shorts, shoes, jewelry, I don't think it's so far off to purchase an eyeshadow print. http://StickersAndDonuts.com

The only time I can see justifying this kind of application would be before a job interview or important social event. I mean, otherwise what happens to the fun of putting on makeup? I like how some days I have to start over and try something new. It's not always perfect, but I love the process of finding the right blend/brush/etc.

it's really cool. instead of trying to redo your makeup you can just put them on and it's just like having a professional do your makeup! the only downside is unlike real makeup, you have to pick from only a couple different items to choose from. When they make more colors and designs...I'm the first one in line !

Danae

tine

I've tried them, the smoky eye and regular eyeshadow ones are retarded, because you can do a better job with brushes. But the zebra and other patterned ones are great! It's hard to get that kind of detail so quickly. I also made it through a dance peformance and a whole night of dancing without it smearing!

Tierney

12/03/2008

I think this is cool, when could you ever get zebra patterned eyelids, at home. Never, unless you were a proffesional high fashion makup artist. But this gives everyone a little bit of fun, and a chance to go al out there. And as for it not being cool becuase "makeup is like art" theres all types of arts and this is just another form of it. Maybe not painting but sculpting for example. Anyway you get what i mean...just becuase its not powdered eyeshadow doesnt mean it cnt be a form of art. So i think this would be a fun thing to try! thanks Nylon.

I think its a brilliant idea it will save time and for someone like me who never applies eyeshadow as great as the celebs will now be able to, genius.
