FIRST LOOK: RICHARD CHAI FOR TARGET

FIRST LOOK: RICHARD CHAI FOR TARGET

You've been dying to see these clothes, and we'll show them to you first.

NYLON will have a full-on article about Richard Chai's new partnership with Target in the imminent August issue, but we figured there was no harm in leaking you the clothes.

Below are our favorite 8 looks, which cost about $90 each (yes, for the whole outfit).

You can score them in Target this August, but tape them up on your wall right now for inspiration!

my dad works at target (yeah I know, shutup) so I get 10% off! that makes it soooo much better!

Lookin' soooo cute. Should be organic like Rogan's. OMG super long, slim cargigans are my staple...I hope they don't become a hipster staple, ew. Can't wait for the collection.

I personally don't see what all the fuss is about, it's not anything extraordinary...the shapes of the outfits are all getting old....the vest under the flowy shirt..what a BORE! My personal favorite "GO" designer was luella a few years back.

Caroline

06/27/2008

I completely agree with Erika; lately, all of the "GO" designers seem to be running together. I understand that they want the clothes to be commercial and therefore sell, but I haven't seen anything inspiring or interesting since Luella and Behnaz.

cardigans are a hipster staple. i have been wearing them 8 years. damn that makes me feel old. they are a classic though.

I for one do enjoy this collection. I've seen similar outfits a million times but still like them quite a bit.

I love it. It's cute and super easy to wear. I can't wait!

The shapes aren't anything new, but I'm loving the fabric and colors.

I agree that the shapes aren't new, but seriously, to get it for these prices are amazingg. So excited!!

Cardigans are a hipster staple. I'm really excited for that coat. I wonder what kind of fabric they are using for it. I'm also really into the long cardigans. I like the color pallet and excited to see the rest of the collection. I agree most of the recent Target GO collections have been pretty blah. This looks like it could be one of the better ones. Proenza Schouler was my favorite though.

eew. and, girls, i find it disturbing that i am the only post that thinks that this is "eew!" i guess i am just an old lady-- a whopping 28 years old. I just don't see one thing on the models that i would actually wear. boo. I was hopeful though, because target really needs some help in the clothing department... slim pickins these days.

Hilary

06/27/2008

I think most of it looks really wearable. You could mix & match it, you don't have to style the pieces in the same way! The red skirt looks like it could be very versatile. Might even be better than the Rogan collection. I'm stoked. Y'all are h8rs.

What?! It's all so plain. The only thing I would even consider buying is the cardigan, except it's probably way overpriced for freakin' Target. So... no thanks.

ESTELLA

06/28/2008

I think the high waisted purple skirt is cute, the outfits as a whole are boringly put together but I'm sure if you bought seperate pieces and mixed them yourself they could look cute. but I agree, definitely not target's best GO collection.

i love almost all. just a couple outfits are weird. i think it's not THAT plain, just sophisticated...in a way...at least parts of it are.

06/28/2008

Eeww... I think if they used edgier/hotter models they could've made the clothes look better than they are. I agree, the GO collections have been getting worse. I used to get excited when a new GO came out, now I've just been getting let down.

Oh my! How darling, it's actually something wearable, and seriously it's not gonna be high-fashion runway ready clothing, it's Target. I think it's amazing.

i agree with estella. the pieces all put together aren't very impressive, but if you pick the looks apart into individual pieces then they would look cute! i'm crossing my fingers for another go at the go collection by luella.

I have to say, This style of clothing has blown out lately. People and their desire to look "indie". I don't blame them. These clothes are pretty amazing, but i have seen them before. and for target, i've seen better. This looks kinda like Issac Mizrahi's collection, just darker.

Love all the indigo.

Michelle

07/02/2008

I like SOME of the clothes, but not all of them. For example, I think the dresses are a little hideous. But the shirt in outfit 4 and the capris in outfit 5 are definitely worth wearing; I have to admit.

mk

07/03/2008

hmm...it's ok. cause i was expecting better. i have to see the whole collection. maybe i might buy couple things.

Linda

07/04/2008

Yeah it's been done, but the colors are nice. Love the vibrant purples & that orange on the one skirt. I like targets collections because they're cheap and versatile. :]

i liked the all concept... and the clothes are nice.. i think he could design more extraordinary pieces... but he did a wonderful thing! now everyone can get richard chai clothing! :)

When in August do they drop? Where I live, these pieces get picked up and are gone on the day of their release! (grrrr) xoxo

i personally like the clothes at target these days. it used to be really ugly UGLY clothes that would fall apart before bringing them home, but their new image-change w/ great design is off the hook! this collection is not the hottest, but still cute stuff here and there. i would buy a few items :) i think simple is nice~

07/12/2008

At low prices, I can't complain but I don't love it. But I think I can mix and match some of the pieces myself and make the outfits look more original then what the models are wearing. Overall, good concept but not well executed. Just OKAY for me.

Amelia

07/13/2008

Most of this is a bit boring. Put together with other things i already own would make a lot of these so much better. There all staples but nothing holds enough water on its own or even paired within the collection. what can we really expect, it is still target.

elizadeath

07/16/2008

I haven't been this excited since Proenza. I had high hopes for some collections namely alice temperley and libertine, and it was kind of a let down. jovovich hawk was a disaster and god know what this private label nonsense is! BRING ON THE CHAI. that plaid coat is so MINE.

Emily

07/17/2008

I want a more... robust ruffle when I think "ruffled blouse," and I could really use something a bit more dramatic, you know? Not saying it's bad, it's just not extremely... exciting. Paul and Joe had good ideas, and I'm with whoever is praying for luella :) that, or Chloe or something.

I just got the denim issue- there's more to it than just this. There is a very interesting dress that is actually not a total bore!

I bought everything Luella at the time!! haha. Amazing, along with Erin Fetherston and Patrick Robinson. I miss that eleganteasy style they had going for a while. Some of the pieces here are interesting, but overall it's pretty blah. I'll probably buy the long cardigan, the black trench and maybe the shrunken purple jacket. Oh and the blue flower print blouse. I guess what I don't like are the way they put the pieces together--so different from how I would imagine it! But then, I guess that's the fun of fashion :-)

The pieces are so muted and modest... they MIGHT work if you separate them and even then you have to make sure they work for your body. I say ditch the grandma garb and lets wish upon a star for a little Betsey Johnson!

sarah

i love the clothes here...colors are a little dull but there was this great dress in TeenVogue that i hope they carry at target in the same pattern as the top in outfit 4.

o my goodness gracious the trench in the third is so cute!!! so going to buy it ;)I love NYLON!

Phoenix

08/01/2008

Meh, the only thing that I see that's relatively cute is the super long cardigan. Everything else looks like they got dressed in the dark. The shapes are really unflattering. You can still wear over-sized clothes and make it look good, but this doesn't do the job.

Tara Nicole

*sigh* the only one i really like is the second from last. this whole GO line seems like hip young clothes remade for thirty-something receptionists, in my very humble opinion, of course.

I bought the cardigan and it's quite snug, not to mention that the arms are very long. Very good for tall people I suppose.

I was there on day 1 - everything is so much better in person. The details and quality of Richard Chai's GO Int'l line was surprising (didn't expect it at Target). The majority of the pieces looked like they were from a high end store and don't get me started on the logo'd buttons - to die for.

Lauren London

08/07/2008

i have to agree w/ mimi m. the collection is very wearable & versatile. most of the pieces can be worn dressed down or up. while i bought the majority of the collection, my favorite piece was the light lavender grayish swing coat jacket. it has a metal tag with the richard chai brand engraved on the inside with a chain so you can hang it up (not that i would). it reminded me of some of the higher-end designer jackets i own. it is also lined in what appears to be silk (most likely polyester) with his logo all over it. the material of the jacket was also very soft. i just love the pleats around the collar. there are just too many subtle details to mention - like his other pieces. i vote - YES YES YES to this line.

aoife

what happened to all the purple? i looked on the target website earlier and the purple cardigan and vest are not there...only indigo versions of both. too bad, but the line is still very good!

Initially, I thought the collection was boring because I only saw the clothes online, but when I went to the store, I was blown away! I love the epaulets on the cardigan, and the skirts are all in interesting fabrics with a great cut and some subtle but fantastic details! LOVE IT.

margaret rankin

09/30/2008

I love his ideas they may seem a little on the daring side but live a little people!!! The dresses do no justice on the rack until you try them on. Things you think would never look good on the type of body you have make you feel and look GREAT!!!

Amelia

My Grandparents work at target so i get HALF PRICE, and it looks like its going to run in the family because thats what i want to be when i grow up (: (: Mwahahahhaha
