The London invasion continues with a TV star hopping across the pond
You may have spotted Alexa Chung in NYLON’s March issue, but there’s more to the 24-year-old TV star then just her great outfits. After working as a London VJ for the past three years, she’s now traveling the world in search of good television, and you know what that means – you’ll see her in America super soon.
Here’s the lowdown on all things Alexa:
She grew up in the middle of nowhere.
I was born in the country, just outside London in Hampshire. It’s like lots of green fields… I really liked it up until the age of fourteen because all I did was ride horses. But then when I realized the world existed beyond horses, I was disappointed.
She’ll get your MySpace messages.
I guess VJs in America are a big deal, but in London… yeah, I’m on TV. So what? I have no “people,” I just have the Internet! I have to find everything out myself!
She’s annoyed by budding hipsters, too.
I had to DJ the other night at a 16-year-old’s birthday, so I spun a lot of Dr. Dre and stupid things that teenage girls like, like really bad new metal like Linkin Park… but this girl was so spoiled, she had CSS and the Klaxons playing live at her birthday! When I was sixteen, I had a tape player and like, musical chairs.
She knows what’s on your iTouch.
Black Lipps, The Charelles, XTC… those are what I like to listen to.
She thinks American girls have great style.
Seeing creative people all over the world is really nice because New York, Los Angeles, I mean, you guys inspire what girls in London wear, and then it becomes a cycle with us and you the teenagers in Paris… all the trends happen in unison now. It’s strange.

So I’m going all over the world to interview different designers, and I’ve already got an interview with Karl Lagerfeld lined up. They played the Ronettes on the Chanel runway last year, so I trust him!

such bullshit about los angeles and new york girls inspiring what people wear here in london.. i have lived in new york, la, and i live in london now for the past year and londoners are incredibly original and quick with their taste. everything they have been wearing for the past year has JUST begun to graze the big cities over seas... once its hot in the states its already OVER AND DONE with here! and a lot of the girls in the US cannot pull off style like Alexa Chungs ... it doesn't happen... i love her and hate her at the same time i mean shes kind of pretentious

I agree with the whole, LA inspiring london, Brit Girls are totally original, I live in Scotland so kind of know! But her sense of style is immaculate and she doesnt just shag rockstars, she has been going out with alex turner for a while! I love her! :)

Sometimes i find myself getting really irratated with alexa but i know deep down its cause i'm just plain jealous. to be honest i think i may be in love with her, she has a great dry sense of humour and she is pretty in a really uncinventional way. She used to be a model and then got ajob on the telly presenting for t4. yes she's slept with loads of guys who are in bands but it was because she had just left a serious relationship and just went wild, she's over it now and laughs about it. she's been dating turner for ages and she's been doing stuff for ethical fashion etc. which i think is pretty big of her as most the people in the fashion world who she associates with wouldnt do that. Her 'i dont give a fuck what you think' attitude is probably the coolest thing about her, oh and the fact that she doesn't just wear designer labels, she wears loads of thrift store finds from second hand and charity shops.
Seriously, stop bitching about just because you are insecure about yourselves, i'm pretty sure most of you wouldn't say this kind of stuff to her facce so stop hiding behind your anonymous internet blanket and live your own life!

I do kinda disagree with her saying New Yorkers and other Americans inspire us Londoners. London holds the best designers, its no wonder British designers are the best in the world. I mean, she used to live in Shoreditch, that area has the most fashionable and creative looking people around, and its all down to vintage.

wtf whats with the bitch ass talk on this, how the hell is she a wannabe? theres plenty more wannabes who are worshiped. the wannabes are the people who went on big brother etc, this girl got picked up from reading festival to become a model, and shes obviously special otherwise she wouldnt have got this far stop with the bitchy attitude, she can act how she wants without you. Just cuase her interview style isn't up to the american standard, here in the uk, everyone just takes the piss out of each other and gets over it.
