Rickey Kim launched Evil Monito Magazine out of his UC San Diego dorm room in 2001, but the edgy, pop culture publication went on hiatus a couple of years ago when Evil Monito started doing branding for the likes of Cassette, Creative Recreation, and Medicom Toy Corp; opened a brick-and-mortar flagship in Echo Park to host film screenings, pop-up stores, and live music shows; oh, and started blogging about L.A. happenings for NYLON. This May, Kim returns to his roots with EM Issue 22, entitled Neighborhood Folk. Featuring everything from a dissection of downtown Los Angeles style to interviews with “iconoclast/artist” T.C. Boyle, Stones Throw Records head Jamie Strong, and Apolis Activism designer Raan Parton. To say that Kim knows his shit is an understatement.
