“My friends always say I have some sort of British humor, like Mr. Bean and Monty Python,” says Fabian Seibert. “Irony provides a great playground for design concepts—I love to play with the little fears that we all have, or the unspoken desires, and provide a little helping hand with a grin.” For the latest collection in the mechanical engineer-cum-jewelry designer’s line, Suezkotlett, Seibert faced his own fear—lingerie. “Never used to like lace lingerie, really. Later I learned that many women love it; it gives them a feeling of raunchiness, or of value and cute playful shyness,” says Siebert. “I designed the Lacey collection so that it carries both of these very contrasting esteems.” To wit: cuff bracelets and rings appear to be woven from lace pattern paper or leather, but are instead brushed and bent into organic shapes from steel. Says Siebert: “Starting to like lace lingerie, by the way.” So are we.
