Stam, Chanel, and Lily rock the new Gap / CFDA designs - but can NYLON's web staff?
It's no secret that I have something of a model obsession - something proven in half horror, half delight every time a NYLON staffer shows me an ad and goes, "Wait, who's this girl?"
"Stam!" I'll scream, or "Siri!" It's almost Pavlovian, the way I can bark the name of Lanvin's latest face on cue (that would be Olga S., in case you care).
So when the latest CFDA / Gap collaboration got announced, I got giddy. The ads star some of my favorite model faces - Irina Lazareanu, Chanel Iman, Jessica Stam - all wearing Gap shirts created by CFDA nominees like Band of Outsiders and Phillip Lim.
It was a little squirt of Fashion Heaven, but my NYLON posse quickly yanked me back to Earth. "Doutzen Kroes looks good in everything," scoffed web editor Samantha (who also, newsflash, looks good in everything).
So I decided to try a little experiment.
Grab three NYLON girls (Kelly Bruce, digital design intern; Caitlin Coble, fashion market intern; Amanda Goldman, digital art director) and dress them in the Gap / CFDA shirts, plus our own shoes, bags, sunglasses, and jeans - no fancy styling, no Louboutins or Chanel aviators (sigh).
Could they look as fashion forward and carefree as the models?
Actually, yeah, I think they all look pretty cool, and definitely gorgeous.
See for yourself, and if you love the results, head to a Gap tomorrow (the website, too!) to buy your little swatch of Fashion Heaven... even if you're not 5'10 and dating Pete Doherty / DJ AM / whatever.
