MISS BRIT 3
Mark Ronson, the Klaxons, Dirty Pretty Things... London rocks!
-
Well there is quite a lot going on at the moment to look forward to here in London. After being surprised that DJs Queens of Noize had decided to do a set at ART ART ART, a new event at West End venue Mahiki (otherwise known as the place where Princes William and Harry fall out of drunk), being excited as my friend Phoebe was also planning to DJ with them, it was rudely cancelled. So, instead, we decamped to what I later found out is the "oldest heavy metal bar in London" – Crobar. Not my usual haunt of choice, I was surprised at how fun it was (this was aided by the fact that wine is £5 a bottle, quite interesting characters frequent it and they have a Jagermeister machine!) Anyway, the disappointment of the first party being cancelled was soon forgotten.
On Thursday night it was back east to Hoxton for the Converse Century party at the Hoxton Bar & Kitchen (ex home of Boombox – which, by the way, is coming back in the form of Boom Box Rokk's JackYaBody on Curtain Road which will be starting over Easter Weekend – will keep you posted). The party was very fun - free-flowing vodka cocktails and music from Jodie Harsh, up-and-coming band Foals and Dirty Pretty Things - who Mark Ronson turned up to watch. I couldn't miss the opportunity to have a word with my favourite DJ and got a bit overexcited - resulting in my pinching his bottom when standing behind him as he watched Carl Barat in action. He looked a little miffed so I pretended it was my housemate who was standing next to me. Childish I know but I couldn't resist. Jamie from Klaxons came along with us too and he kept the free Champagne coming from the VIP room that us mere mortals couldn't get access to. Fun!!
Other bits and bobs happening this month are the opening of east end pubs The Stoned Pony – yes you read that right – and The Star of Bethnal Green – planning to open on Bethnal Green Road on the 20th. The latter promises us live up-and-coming bands every Wed so I will be keeping my eye out for the latest talent, no doubt. For those of you coming to London soon, head over – Brick Lane is just around the corner and it is getting more and more of a makeover as the weeks go by with hip new haunts sprouting up all over the place!
And, not exactly east but east-end boy Henry Holland is planning to host a regular night at Movida, a west end nightclub more regularly known for its popularity with people like Jordan and Peter Andre (hmmm). Anyway, apparently, the designer plans to host FASH BASH there every month – expect to see Henry, Agyness and Gareth Pugh on the decks. As if this will make people think West London is cool again….
