THE GRAY LADY
The first big nail shade of '08.
Do nail colors change quicker than tabloid covers? That’s the feeling after New York Fashion Week, where editors and stylists wore Chanel Blue Satin on their fingers while rock stars and actresses stuck to black, and models… well, they had a different story:
Gray nails.
We spotted top girls at Tommy Hilfiger (see Kirsten, up top), Anna Sui, and Marc by Marc all rocking a light gray shade of polish.
Our favorite version so far comes from OPI with the OTT name Moon Over Mumbai and a subtle, smoky color that works on both long and short nails.
The polish retails for about $10, but if you don’t want to splurge, you can always stir your own: Take your old black polish, mix it slowly with a spill of white manicure mix, and voila – you’re so trendy, it’s disgusting.

i ended up buying the OPI color moon over mumbai, and it was WAY too pale for my skin tone. Making my own was much better. If you just take a thin paper plate and drop white on it, simply get your black nail polish and wipe of most of the excess of black and use that to mix in with the white. It looks very close to the picture above! Good luck! :)

the best grey polish out there is Recycle by China Glaze, perfect midtone grey - better than Moon Over Mumbai and easier than frankening your own!
