I honestly think that either Sarah Easom or LF Markey should have won. Their stuff has lots of color and doesn't all look the same.

Well, I think the winner deserved to win, as the fabrics that re used are interesting and unique. However, I think William Tempest's collection was beautifully crafted, and I would definetly buy his collection.
I have to agree that Sarach Easom's dresses are ill fitting, and look as if they've all been taken from the '70s. the bad side of the 70s.

LF Markey played it too safe but has great taste in colours. Eun Jeong Hong and Sarah Easom both used a lot of creativity.

With all due respect to everyone... THANK GOD Eun Jeong Hong won. Huge kudos for creative audacity, but it only works when the dress actually works. If there's one thing I learned from my years in a NY fashion house, it's the art of properly draping a garment and using the right fabrics for the job... no print in the world is a substitute for skill...

Eun Jeong Hong! At first I thought it was too minimalistic, but fooled myself as I was so drawn to the way it was draped. I agree with Gidget. Print does not always consolidate for talent. I do believe that the best designers are the ones who know the art of drapery. And I'm sure the collection looked better being walked in than in pictures. I'd love to see a video of it.

if you had to pick. Eun Jeong Hong is the winner. Be it they are new designers, they could atleast have shown something a lot more innovative than usual silhouttes and extreme laborious detailing is tired. Sarah Easom did great.

On another note entirely, I'd be interested to know Eun Jeong Hong's inspiration... To me, this screams "Herb Alpert" (Whipped Cream)...

william tempest or LF markey, by far. eun jeong hong's drapery is great, yes, but I really only liked a couple of the dresses. the rest reminded me of cottage cheese. maybe I'm just crazy, but, I hate cottage cheese. perhaps if another color had been used, I would love it, but I can't.

I think you DEF made the right choice with the winner. Its the most couture and innovative. The tailoring is spectacular.

By far, William Tempest or LF Markey. Markey's design's are outrageously bold, but have tact in their color combinations. Tempest provides a line of chic dresses and heels, one that looks like it would make any girl feel like money.
I'm hardly going to mention Eun Jeong Hong or Sarah Easom. My personal opinion is that their designs were something you'd find while digging through a trash can; who would be comfortable or even independent enough to wear that?

I think calling Eun J's line, "digging through trash can" is a bit harsh. Hasn't it always been the Avant Garde's that pave the way for future fashions to trickle down into mainstream markets?

whatever is that white dress from William Tempest presentation. you could have done without it. clever detailing, for what. all well made, though. one dress is hot. the rest is kinda like some secretary hit the lottery and decide to wear those other pieces.

I am absolutely in love with the William Tempest pieces, i think they are wonderfull, the only one i wasn't feeling was the Sarah Easom, but apparently from the other reviews, i'm not alone.

Sarah Easom. her dresses are so unique

It's clear Sarah Easom 'could' have won if it weren't for fashion choosing the easy option.
Go By a Secret Path dresses are timeless, wearable and sellible to the mainstream shoppers of somewhere like Harvey Nics or Selfridges. That's probably why. They want their 'moneys worth.'
Easom is more about character (that, which is lacking in most fashion designers today!) In her clothes; in herself. The type of person that secretly steals attention-like how she secretly stole the show.
We all know.
The rest seem quite safe. And go to Tempest's site for delusions of grandure.

at first Sarah Easom caught my eye. but after i looked through them all a second time, i thought, "maybe it was just the colors and prints?" i feel like it has all been done. LF Markey and William Tempest on the otherhand.. completely different from each other but I can't decide between the two. LF Markey's are bold and fantastic whereas Tempest's are very practical and very womanly. Wouldn't you feel absolutely successful, accomplished and confident in those pieces?

William Tempest. thats all that should be said- i mean just look how classy his collection is.

I like LF Markey's idea, but it turned out to be horrible !
He never thought of women's bodies so they fit the models in a terrible way.
It's really frustrating if you ask me.
William Tempest is the one I think should have won. But.. The outfits aren't well done either. I can see terrible sewing mistakes which is a shame.
Overall, none of these designers impressed me. Pretty poor selection of designers if you ask me.

Although this years competition was the most diverse yet, i can't help but feel Fashion Fringe(FF) has chosen the easy option. When London is known for pioneering extraordinary and experimental young designers, it seems a shame that they chose a "run-of-the-mill" white doiley collection as it’s beacon for British Fashion. Current Economic climate aside, individuality and longevity should have been prevalent in the judges minds, not making a quick buck off the back of an easily marketable Designer.
Take one of London’s own, Gareth Pugh, upon first hitting the headlines, his aesthetic was either loved or loathed, hardly selling a stitch, but his unyielding ethos has propelled him to the heights of Paris Fashion Week and world recognition. Was this not done with the help of people believing in bigger and better things for him as a Designer?
Through talking with many people in the industry, it is very clear to me that a chance was not taken on the wildcard of Sarah Easom. With the press clearly sighting her as the strongest and most exciting finalist, and odds-on favourite to win, it’s disappointing to think FF has fallen short of it’s role within London Fashion. Clearly the most expensive and labour intensive, (not at all just about print & colour, but also about layering, cut & engineering) Easom’s designs will clearly sit better within a Couture environment, rather than London’s R-to-W scene. So, maybe a blessing in disguise to not win!? As with Easom, LF Markey was prepared to try something new and exciting, attempting to push London in a prosperous new direction. Whilst Tempest’s will sit comfortably alongside every other cocktail dress in Selfridges.
No doubt, however, all four finalists will have fantastic careers ahead of them, and here’s hoping young design talent will continue to be given better opportunities within London‘s experimental hub.

For some reason, I really loved Eun Jeong Hong's collection. I loved the white. I loved the lace. When I first looked at them I was compelled to find out what that white mass was. Turns out it was lace, still good though. I really liked it.

I love EunJ's one! Its unique, fresh and sexy in some way.Love Drapery piecies.. William's one is beautiful when i see them separately, but in a hole collection? No way, totally disorganised..Markey's one is too boring and almost same as his or her graduate collection from CSM 2008. Well,Sahra's one is interesting on printing but also disorganised..she seems she tried to put every skills n colours in one collection! TOO MUCH!!
HMMMMM

Are Sarah's models in drag? The dresses aren't even worthy of the barnum & bailey circus, and she makes pattern BORING. It's the equivalent of what Sarah Palin would wear if she had to wear pattern to a GOP bake sale.

HMMMMMM...........I SMELL A DISTINCT SMELL OF BULLSH**.
Sarah was an obvious to win.
The fashion world is full of crap.
It's the middle class/middle of the road/mediocre personalities and mummy and daddy's bank balances that seem to keep the little pidgeons churning out old BS.
Go to Topshop and sell your soul for a piece of polyester crap. Dont forget to stop off at Primark and maybe you'll bump into Twiggy snogging the face off Karl Lagerfeld. Then get stoppedand snapped by a WGSN trend forecaster and watch your sad world go round and round in the fashion rag mags.
Let's hope this credit crunch decapitates a few bloated fashion heads.
Galliano said tonight on BBC2:
"It's when your back is against the wall that you are at your most creative.."
I wonder how many up and coming designers have their back up against a fu**ing cold brick wall.Or a Muji fu**ing rug bought for 79.99 last season by their grandma (in their 2-bed London pad?)
Where is the romance-the desperation? The point where you make headpieces out of feathers picked up from Trafalgar square pidgeons, even?
No-it's not funny anymore. The fun has gone and the party is over. Also, Saint Martins 'used' to be good when Chalayan, McQueen, Galliano and Cary-Williams attended. But now it's a cesspool that drains unfortunate students of their money then spits them out onto the London streets.
If you have the money-dont go there, you wont get your worth!
Save it and get a sweatshop in china like the rest of the designers!

Isn't it obvious? The winners should be William Tempest and Sarah Easom. Sarah has an interesting mix of ideas, and William makes high-fashion glamour his own.

I loved William Tempest. He should have won.
Eun Jeong Hong had a nice "theme" but it was too much the same and had little things I would have changed about the pieces.

william tempest's designs are on the pulse of my heart. But his interpretation of fringe- while gorgeous, elegant, understated, yet bold- didn't take many risks, which is necessary to win this kind of competition
