@ seriously: Uhh Aliyah WAS african-american. I haven't even watched the video, but michelle was only getting into character by darkening her skin. how can she come close to looking like aliyah if she didn't have darker skin? if anything someone would say she looked like jessica rabbit or something otherwise. anyway, this video didn't look like aliyah so much as the preview picture.

I don't think it's offensive and I am black.. I think it's a great tribute to Aaliyah! She did a nice job capturing her look :)

This video is in NO way offensive. If you are looking to be offended you should probably find more viable sources. "Black face"?? The only thing offensive is that someone would bring up that term. I hope @seriously is still in high school so she can have time to acquire the "socio-political" education he/she is in such dire need of.

Oh stfu all of you, she did a really good job, it's nice easy to transform your look, even though she didnt fucking look 100 percent she still came close, quit being so fucking stubborn and watch the video, you should all be ashamed, and if you think she sucked, why dont you try to do a better video? here are your options, 1.) do something about it, or 2.) shut the FUCK UP

This is completely a mess. The contours are weird and that wig, looks terrible. You couldn't have even used Aaliyah's real singing voice for this video? You had to use a cover? Next time get a real makeup artist too.

@Stevie wth are you going off on you psycho? I stated my opinion on the tutorial and in my words it's terrible. She ended up doing a sloppy Chola tutorial instead of transforming into Aaliyah. Yeah, I'm sooo jelly of that. Her end result was unfortunate and it's not my fault that you're getting butthurt because someone didn't like it. Boo Hoo.

It's no offense in this video whatsoever. She does a really good job, but of course we can't forget she's oriental!! I'm white and I would never be able to use makeup so wonderfully as to even look as close to the singer as Michelle. Well done!!!

This is an absolute mess. Im sorry. Its mildly offensive also because she passed away. It looks horrible. Why would they choose Michelle Phan to do this ?

This isn't offensive in anyway! She did a makeup transformation and did a wonderful job. Her doing a MAKEUP tribute would be like someone else doing a video montage tribute. And she used a cover because Aaliyah's music is still under copyright and youtube or another channel would have removed the music and put that nasty fill in music. I still can't get over the offensive part... it was a TRIBUTE. I swear people cry and complain just to start things...

The end result didn't look like Aaliyah at all. Everything about this vid is off point (e.g. contouring, wig, the eyes, cover song, etc.) next time a professionally trained/experienced mua would be greatly appreciated.

I love Michelle but you couldn't get a black person to do his makeup look? I'm sure there are just as great african american makeup artists. The darker makeup on her face looks ridiculous.

i don't know much about michelle phan, but i don't think the idea of this is to look exactly like aaliyah. michelle is a make-up artist right ? so isn't she just trying to replicate aaliyah's make-up style ? i think it's more than obvious that if the point was to look like aaliyah she would just undergo extreme plastic surgery. and the skin color thing and wig are just ways to get into character. i see this as a celebration of aaliyah as a beauty icon. why so much hate people ?
