NYLON's editor-in-chief distinguishes the best from the rest.
As founder and editor in chief of NYLON, Marvin Scott Jarrett has made a career of spotting big names before they’re big. Here, he distinguishes the best from the rest.
Who are some of your perennial Project favorites?
I’m always happy to see WeSC. I grew up skateboarding and surfing, and I appreciate their European take on skate clothes, and I’m friends with the Ksubi guys, so always like to see them. I’m also wearing this great rosary piece from King Baby. I know Mitchell and always like his stuff.
What does a new brand have to do to get your attention?
I walked by Distilled’s booth and was really attracted to their typography, logo, and geek-chic vibe. It’s tough to come up with a new perspective with so many brands competing for attention, so I admire anyone who can do that.
What do you think of this season’s show?
It’s really awesome. It’s great that you can come here to see big brands, but still discover new stuff. It’s been cool to watch the show evolve and get bigger each time.
How do you meet so many people?
As NYLON grows, there are more and more people who want to talk to us, and that’s exciting. I love talking to people who are passionate about and proud of what they do instead of just going to a job they’re not happy with.
Does it get overwhelming?
No. Every time I have a conversation, I just try to put my energy into it and be present and be focused.
So at the end of the day, you just drink a Diet Coke and do it again.
Exactly.
