Kristen Stewart on David Letterman, Joan Jett, and Hollywood's new blood.
Though she’d caught our eye with her piercing turn with Emile Hirsch in Into the Wild last year, it was her Twilight role as Bella Swann, the mortal love of a “vegetarian” vampire named Edward Cullen (a phrase now synonymous in America with “hot, unattainable soul mate”) that showed she was ready for her NYLON cover turn. Apparently, Superbad director Greg Mottola agrees - he's cast Kristen opposite Jesse Eisenberg in his new flick Adventureland.
Here’s what Kristen told us about her new life as a bonafide, tabloid-chased celebrity. Read the new issue of NYLON for even more about the world of a Hollywood veteran, but a very new movie star.
On the Twilight Madness: “Anywhere we’d go for Twilight was a psychotic situation. The sound was deafening, and it’s thoughtless, as well… You get a slew of all these bullshit questions like, ‘What’s it like to kiss a vampire?’ and ‘How much do you love Robert?’ Then you’ll get one that’s actually real, but you’re like, ‘No, I can’t right now, I can’t even consider [it].”
On her memorable David Letterman appearance: “I feel like I have nothing to say on those shows… I’m not good at the funny thing—most people are really great on those shows. I don’t have a contrived personality that [I can] just pump out [for] a five-minute segment, so I end up sitting there and looking kind of baffled. Embarassing.”
And no, she’s not dating Robert Pattinson. “It’s just totally false… Rob and I are good friends. We went through a lot together, so we feel very close. But if we go out in public, every little detail is scrutinized, like the way I stand next to him. And it’s like, I know this guy really fucking well [laughs]. It’s only natural that we’re sort of leaning on each other, because we’re put in the most fucking psychotic situations.”
On who she’s actually dating: “He’s older than me—he’s 20 now—but when you’re 13 and he’s turning 16, it was always sort of an out-of-reach thing. Then you get a little older, and you realize, ‘Oh, What the fuck am I thinking? I can have you, like, lickity...’” she snaps her fingers, laughing. “He’s awesome.”

Dude, her bf has already made a name for himself in hollywood as a child actor and beyond. If you look at his credits he's worked along side people from meryll streep, kurt russel, jacky chan, jet li, melissa leo etc...he's had mostly starring roles too. He's just more of an indie film actor just like Kristen was until twilight.. so to say "epic fail" is so ignorant of you. He follows her everywhere perhaps because they're that solid as a couple. I'm sure if rob was her bf and he did the same you'd react differently.
I think Michael rocks as a bf to her... I mean she can have anyone she wanted really... but yet she's sticking with him! And to have been with him since...that says a lot.

Wow. You are hysterical. Her fans that are obsessed with her relationship with MA are pathetic. That video was from two years ago. There are so many other videos of them from one at a theme park to airports where they won't even look at each other. Also, the recent pictures of them unhappy after the Slumdog party. I'm just a Kristen fan. If she's happy, cool. But she doesn't seem to be too happy when she is with him. Its a HS relationship like all the rest. It will end. I love that Kristen and Michael stay strong despite people thinking they are entitled to give their two cents about who she needs to be with. She is so unique in how she carries herself, and I think some people take that for her being stuck up. She's been a huge influence on me however, and I've never encountered a more down-to-earth actress. I hope we get to see more of her in future issues.

I really like kristen as an actress and i admire her endurance! lol Everyone is getting on her casue for being a real person, if she's annoyed then let her be annoyed. As none of you are actually in her shoes i suggest you think twice about calling her a jerk or saying she;s ungratefull. She is obviously flustered and she even says she get nervous in interviews and doesn't know what to say. I personally think she is very elequent, intelligent, and well spoken (despite the f-bomb which is only a human teen thing) and I've heard her say in interview that she loves acting but at the same time she doesn't want to be a perfessional liar for the rest of her life. Way to go Kristen! I completely agree with her about fan questions. Everyone asks the same STUPID QUESTIONS over and over and it gets to a point where it's ridiculous (Moms asking Rob, Cam and Taylor what kind of UNDERWEAR they sport? inappropriate!) Ok, nice interview, HOWEVER..to all of you that loved Twilight: It is soo apparent that SHE does NOT love Twilight. She has said herself that if she knew the hype, she wouldn't have done the movie. Its almost as if she is embarassed by it. And I'm sorry but I am just not diggin her attitude even if she is being honest. I'm not a teen and I loved Twilight, never knowing anything about it. I thought what made it special was Kristen & Robert's chemistry. But after this interview (and Letterman) I won't be looking at anymore KS interviews. She may be feisty and outspoken, but more and more I am just seeing her come off as spoiled and rude!
Yeah, yeah, the Twilight hype is CRAZY and there are some nutty fans. But in Rob's interviews he says he feels sorry for fans, because they wait 8 hours in line to see him for 2 seconds. He's always wishing he can spend more time with them. While Kristen just demoralizes them and calls the psychotic! I know that the popularity of this movie was unexpected, but she ought to look at the positives and see the opportunities that she'll get from it. (Maybe if she'd had a better attitude, the Academy might have invited HER to the Oscars too!)
I don't care who she dates or what her feelings on the fans are --- but she is a public figure now and she ought to learn how to handle it with a bit more grace!

Yeah, I have to argue; i think kristen "defines" awesome. At least she's honest and says whats on her mind rather than giving crappy bubbly answers. I have seen many of Kristen's films and feel that she is a solid actress. As Bella, I felt Kristen captured the essence of the character in the book: a peculiarly level-headed girl not prone to overreaction. But it is my opinion that this interview will act as a negative factor against the upcoming continuation of the Twilight Saga films. While I support the rights of everyone to be themselves and freely express their opinions, her comments show a disrespect for her fans and also a general lack of self-respect. I cannot imagine what it is like to live one's life under the scrutiny of the public eye, but to work and be successful in her field....well, that's part of the price you pay. It might not be fair, but since it is clearly a fact, it would seem prudent to guard your tongue concerning the fanbase that actually provides your living. As I cannot imagine another actress playing Bella as true to the book character, I hope she finds it in herself to be, or use her considerable acting skills, to sound a little more gracious. But then, I'm probably psychotic.

She said that about the screaming Twilight fans and lets face it, if you SCREAM when you see a celebrity, you have issues. It isn't just this interview. In her "Unscripted" interview with Stephenie Meyer and Rob, she talked about the Twilight series like it was something she agreed to and now regrets. She never says anything good about her fans or her good fortune. She is from a 'Hollywood' family and used to fame and associating with celebrities, unlike Rob who is overwhelmed by all the attention. She does not speak ill of Rob, but she always comes off sounding like an arrogant, spoiled bitch. Maybe that is who she really is, but her fans expect more and deserve better. I can appreciate that Kristen is trying to "keep it real"...that IS refreshing in an industry overflowing with robotic-like scripted responses in interviews. That being said, her personality and overall attitude is unattractive to me. She is clearly immature, as she cannot get a sentence out without an expletive involved. Also, she seems completely unappreciative of the success that "Twilight" has brought her. Either that, or she has absolutely no idea how to convey that. I just think a negative attitude, when you've been given so much, is such a waste.

Serazz - First off - Relax! Are you close friends with Kristen? How do you know her so well yourself? I, myself, try not to comment on someone's personal life because I know very well that I don't have access to this. I and many more of the "rational" posts here are just commenting on her public personae and what she is "putting out there" about herself. I definitely respect someone who speaks their mind and doesn't sugar coat things. I like Kristen and hope that she thrives and grows as an actress if it is her ambition. BUT, my comment is that she is alienating fans... and possibly industry people as well, when she depicts herself as A) aloof and better than her fan base B) unable to have just a general conversation on a talk show (wittiness is not a prerequisite, I've seen many sedate actors on talk shows) and C) drops f-bombs as liberally as conjunctives in her interviews. She may be quite smart, but when she communicates like this it definitely doesn't show. I think I'm in a more experienced age-braket than some of the posters here (ok, I'm in my 30s) and I KNOW what reputation can do to your career if you aren't careful with it. I think a lot criticism here is about wanting Kristen to be careful with what she's saying and doing!

As for her boyfriend? You can't judge a relationship by how they look in photographs. They've been together a long time and he seems to be keeping a dignified silence when faced with a lot of crap about how his girlfriend should dump him and how he isn't good enough for Kristen. That rates him high in my book, he seems very supportive of her.

I loved her in Twilight, but holy foul mouth! I mean, it's not like I haven't met some pretty blunt people before... and I understand being weirded by some of those questions, I would be too. BUT I would refrain from doing or saying anything that made me seem ungrateful. I like that she doesn't want to appear fake and she wants to just be herself. Kristen did a great job in Twilight as far as acting went. The movie was strictly mediocre; I adore the Twilight series, and I REALLY adore Edward & Bella as a couple. At first, I liked Kristen as Bella much more than I liked Rob as Edward.
But that's completely reversed now. Cussing is just irritating. It's never called for, but it's more understandable if you, say, fell off a cliff or something. Instead, Kristen seems to be thinking "Ok, I haven't cussed for three sentences, I'll throw in a few expletives here...and here...and here...."
And, honestly, she's seriously disrespecting the fans when she talks so apathetically about Twilight. This is something we love; couldn't she at least PRETEND to be interested in the movie SHE signed on for?

Nylon's featuring of this actress suprises me: She is known for her role in 'Twilight,' which is a film directed toward a pre-teen audience. Accordingly, the quality of the acting is on the lesser side. Stewart's acting is just that- poor quality and fitting for pre-teen films. Why is Nylon, a magazine for young adult women, now featuring someone with evidence of such negligable acting ability who is in the mainstream world of film to boot? Doesn't Nylon condone individuality? What happened to covers featuring worthy talent? Kristen Stewart and, previously, Paris Hilton... these girls are certainly not iconic in the fashion world and have achieved nothing notably significant. Hopefully in the future the magazine will make a more appropriate selection for its cover.

I really enjoyed this article on Kristen. I really have felt badly for both her and Rob. They do a job and everyone thinks they NEED to know their business. As for the whole Michael/Rob situation, I have no clue about that. I'd say that if anything was going to happen between Kristen and Rob, it would be in the next year and a half. They will be together a lot over that period of time for filming and promotion. But I'm sure there will be some "Kristen & Taylor" speculation once New Moon comes out. So as far as whoever Kristen ends up with I am completely "Team Switzerland".

Guys, I've seen interviews before. None of this "Kristen is ungrateful and hates her fans and hates Twilight" crap is true. Her words are twisted into things that are interpreted the wrong way.
And so what if she thinks her Twilight-fame-life is psychotic? You'd think so too if you were bombarded with irrelevant questions that get you embarrassed. And the whole dating Rob thing must be getting on her nerves. They're really good friends, and it's better like that, because honestly, if they were dating, and things were to screw up between them, that would totally affect their relationship on-screen.
So leave the girl alone. She's talented and great as Bella, and there's no need to scrutinize every word she says.

Yes I just left the "Kristen Stewart Fan Club" group a few minutes ago. I didn't simply take hearsay, but delved into research and yeilded the same results. Kristen Stewart has acted patronizing for a while now and I will no longer support her as an actress. I have lost much respect for her in addition to her father for his remark at the Oscars.
I will say this now:
When celebrities complain about the "price" of fame, I cannot seem to dredge up sympathy for them. To me, the benefits seem to outweigh the costs and most celebrities know press coverage comes with the territory before entering the industry. Their primary purpose in soceity is to entertain the public when in public. That is their job, to entertain above all else.
Across the globe, throughout time there have lived impoverished, famished children who did NOT have a choice in their condition and who do not complain but work toward improvement of their predestined condition. Kristen Stewart was born into a family which could provide for her everything she could want, and need, in a thriving community yet she complains about her admirers who have not been privilaged with a life such as hers. We spend money we do not have to catch a second's glace of her, only to have her through us to slander and dejection when we read through a much anticipated article in Nylon as well as similar remarks she has made through other outlets.
Ms. Kristen Stewart, I shall spare you my stupid questions and complete admiration for now on. You will not have to deal with this fan's attention or care any longer. I, along with many others, hereby set you free from your tragic lifestyle!

Hey, Laura - both Kristin and Rob thought that Twilight was going to be a little "cult" indie film because Kathrine Hardwicke was an indie director and it was soooo low budget. They were all taken by surprise at how the popularity grew while they were filming it. When the script was first optioned the book hadn't even been published yet! Then Summit got the Bella as a track star script and asked Catherine to direct. She liked the idea went back to the source material i.e. the book and insisted that they rewrite the script to follow the book and she cast the kids. Who were/are both shocked that this turned into such a big worldwide thing. I feel sorry for them since they didn't really know what they were getting into when they signed on. It's not like they auditioned for the next big Superhero movie or something. I love that kstew is real and calls it like she see it, instead of manufacturing crap for our consumption.

I did some research on K-Stew and her so-called indie roles. She's been in movies like Zathura, Jumper, and In The Land Of Women, ALL of which were big budget Hollywood movies. Kristen Stewart is acting. You say she's not spewing crap but how do you know that this "badass indie" image isn't a big show for you? You don't know this girl or what kind of person she is, or if she is "calling it like she sees it". All I see is her acting in one of the biggest movies of '08 and constantly badmouthing it. She doesn't just insult the fans, she insults the MATERIAL. She chose to do the movie, and even if she didn't know about the success (which, she's been working with people such as Sean Penn, Olympia Dukakas, and Sharon Stone since she was twelve. I would hope that she would know how to act professionally to an interviewer (it's not being fake if you don't say EVERYTHING on your mind). You have to know how to edit yourself for publicity. It's a fact of life, and we all do it. Oh, wait, no. I'm sure you tell everyone you know everything you think. Nevermind.

i think mizz stewart should take a hint from ellen page, who was in the situation of a small indie movie becoming a huge success in 2007, but dealt with fame gracefully. while kristen tries to act like she's an indie actress who was thrust into the spotlight, the fact that she's been in such other big name movies (like the messengers, panic room, and adventureland coming out soon) says otherwise, to me. ellen page was always a kind of lower budget indie actress, and REMAINED that way throughout juno. like i said, kristen could learn a few things from ellen.

I got the magazine and i was absolutely disappointed with the article on Ms.Stewart. The opening words in bold gray lettering; quote, 'Kristen Stewart is smoking' - already makes me cringe. I ignore this and continue reading. I am frankly surprised/shocked. K Stew swears and lights another couple of cigarettes throughout the duration of the interview. I died a little on the inside. Yes, i know that the cover claims that it shows 'Kristen Stewart uncensored' but this wasn't the Kristen that i was expecting. She's beautiful, talented and yet, she came off as ungrateful and completely arrogant in the NYLON article. What happened?! I pity Steph Trong for having to put up with her.

First of all,i want to correct negative comments about rob,&rob&kristen & of course twilight.rob,is a nice & cool,fancy,rich,handsome guy,you should know him for who he is before ding bad comments about him.and he's thankful that he worked with kristen.rob & kristen look good together through their pics and how much they know about each other,and you can even see just in their pics how close they are.i kind of agree that she & michael isn't meant for each other.i know how good he is in hollywood,but if you just see their chemestry,and kristen's face everytime they're together,how comfortable she is wih him.and if rob ad kristen met first,it wouldn't take 2 yrs. or more to be her boyfriend.they just sometimes don't go gut together because of their issues and because she has a bf & her bf is there.Twilight is a great,wonderful movie.and has a good,nice cast,crew,staff,director and author.their clothes look nice,each actor is perfect for every role,the story?fantastic.EVERYTHING is great.mwah i love you guys so much.thanks for all the hardwork u gave for the movie just to please us and so u did.for the movie & for being very acceptable to our comments.what a great anthor is Stephenie Meyer.PLS.READ & SUPPORT!!!

I think the article was honest and amazing. I loved the shoot, and I think she is a great actress, she doesnt fake it, she brings herself to a role, or an interview and either you love it or hate and she knows that. She doesnt take all this hype too seriously and I like that about her. I love her style and down-to-earth attitude. Shes a normal girl and she rocks in my opinion.

Kristen is amazing - honest, down to earth, non-pretensious, smart and of course gorgeous! Just watched again Cake eaters - how well she played that role! That movie not for everyone as Kristen herself not for evryone to love and like. I wish best for her with whomever she'll chose to be! And article is awesome though it caused avalanche of undeserved hatred towards Kristen.

I can't say I am a fan of Kristen Stewart at all. The fact that she's trying not to be cliche' just makes her more cliche'. I don't know who decided she was cool, but even in her "Nylon TV" video on youtube she just seems lame and cliche'-- who doesn't like the rolling stones, or think Joan Jet is cool? The fact that she is ungrateful about everything just makes her all the more unattractive. And, I don't think she is a good actress. Her shaky, distracting mouth figeting during the entire Twighlight movie was both distracting and annoying. Also, the fact that she made the Twighlight writers change lines that she didn't feel like delivering because she thought they made her look dumb are just another sign of a bad actress. She should be grateful for the career she has now, I don't think it will last too long.

I've got to say, I laughed when I read this. Yeah, she seems ungrateful and kind of snobby, but who isn't? At least she's not plastering on some fake smile and giving stupid answers. So she used curse words and that makes her sound immature. So what? She's seventeen, guys. She IS immature still.
And with regard to her attitude towards her fans, I couldn't agree more. Just because you're eleven years old DOES NOT mean that you believe in vampires. I wouldn't answer the question either, obviously whoever's asking it is an idiot.

Everytime I watch this girl give an interview, I get this cringing sensation. She is so boring beyond words and her acting sucks. Nobody is saying that you have to have a "contrived personality" as she so eloquently put it, but it wouldn't kill you to act like you can carry a conversation. I honestly think she conducts such half-assed interviews so that people like Letterman will think twice before asking her to make a guest appearance on their show in the future. Hey Kristen, you walk around like you're so mature, try growing up for a change!

i love online posts, its most likely one of the darkest places on earth. kristen is often volatile, awkward, lacking what some would call basic social skills, and in some cases shockingly rude. and i like it all. i like that she complains about her job. most of us do. so she picked it, and therefore should deal with fans that are immature and ridiculous in a manner that pleases us all? i dont agree. i picked my crap job at shoppers and in a way the customers provide my paycheck. but i hate most of them and voice it when i get home on a regular basis. she can complain and be weird and i will still pay attention when she comes on screen. because she is compelling to me. i think we need to stop asking celebrities to act any different then they are. some of u swear, and smoke, and complain about things that are in your power to change too. and if you have grown from that then hurray! its human to be dumb and grow and learn! why are we asking her to watch her mouth and respect people she doesnt know? kristen is a prime example of flawed human nature and some of us are ripping her to sheds. hypocrisy. one more human element. lets be shredded people who think first about all the foible qualities in kristen (or any other celebrity) that we either possess currently or did at one time. if any of you faulty people were thrust into stardom, would you change all your blemishes if thats not who you were, or not who your ready to be yet? unsatisfied either way. you will be mad if she changes into the conventional people pleaser. and outraged and judgmental if she speaks her mind, even if it is what some consider rude. ill eat up her rude and be thankful shes not normal.

I liked the movies. I can't really figure out what I think of her, I'm not a crazy fan that read the books or any of that. She reminds me alot of myself actually. So for that reason, I won't bash her. I think she's not liking the fame thing too much and its pushing her over the edge. So she smokes cigarettes, so she smokes bud...It's just an escape for her to not be Bella for once. I don't blame her at all, thats what millions of other people in the world do. I think her boyfriend isn't a good influence, but who are we to judge? None of us have ever experienced what she has. If she wants to date who she's dating, whatever let her. It's not like anything any of us are saying is going to matter to her, in the end she's going to do what she feels like doing. She's introverted by the way, thats why she doesn't show emotion. It's part of what she does. It's bella's character. So all of us should go back to our lives and stop being arrogant about someone else's life.
